As always the players are far more athletic, and the defenses have become considerably more advanced in recent years.

He AVERAGED 20, over the course of a season.

Yea, AFTER he had averaged 31ppg over 13 seasons with the Bulls. So by the time he was 39, his ppg had slipped to 20ppg after taking a few seasons off. His FG % dropped from 50% down to 43%.

I dont know how old you are, but he was a shell of himself even at the point. Of course 20ppg is respectable for a 39yr old. But he was playing on a shite team with few scoring options.

He just made 52. So you think 13 years after he retired he can go out and score 20. I highly doubt it. Players age fast. He couldnt keep up with 20year olds

If you average 20, you don't have trouble scoring 20. You averaged 20.

I'd say remarkable moreso than respectable, but both obviously. He did so on 45% shooting.

When you're how other guys perform when creeping up on 40, you can easily realize just how underrated that season was, but people don't because they compare to his numbers in his prime, which shouldn't be done imo.

his 16ft-22ft jumper was 41.7% and 41.8% of his fg attempts from '01-'03 were from there.

Give him enough, he can make it happen

Well his unguarded shooting from that range is bound to go down with the decrease in upper and lower body strength, vision, and cognition in the past 12-13 years. Then when you add that with less elevation and slower speed, getting out to effectively guard and contest his shot would be much easier for defenders. Finally, with a decrease in his ability to get to the rim, defenders could go all out.

In other words, he would probably be well under 40% from that range, which may be where he will be most effective overall. That doesn't make for an easy path to 20 points.

this thread is dumb. Jordan would get torched if he stepped on an NBA floor today.

I'm going with this. I don't think he would exactly help a team.

Robert Parish scored 12 points in 21 minutes in a game in 1997 at like 44 years old.

He also scored 8 points in 12 minutes

7 points in 6 minutes

8 points in 15 minutes

etc.

If given enough time on the court, he could have put up some 20 point games.

Michael Jordan, the goat, 7 years older... could he put up 20 if given the minutes?

I say he potentially could do it once during an 82 game season.

There are players who are not athletic at all who score 20 points sometimes just by getting set up for open shots.

If Jordan got in the best shape he could for his age and really practiced hard to knock as much rust off as he could, I think he could do it once.

Well yeah. That might change the circumstances a little bit. The OP asks if he could suit up RIGHT NOW though. He probably couldn't even last more than 15 minutes on the court in the shape he's in now.
