But the show wasn't tired, neither were the businesses it showcased, and every swinging dick who scratches a check out of Greater New Orleans better hope like hell the sales job he gave (as others do too) draws in the masses. Your damn livelihoods depend on it.

Agreed.
9.28 million tourists in 2013 that spent $6.47 billion. NOLA would not exist as we know it without the masses coming in to eat drink and be merry.

GG, I am with you. I love beignets, and I love going to Cafe' Du Monde.

Bottom line: For those us from South Louisiana, it's been done. For the rest of the state, no offense lolNorthLa, and country, that's what needs to be thrown at them over and over.

The tourism comments on here are spot on. Lose tourism and it's over.

New Orleans without tourism is like an ocean without water. It's not going anywhere and fact it's only becoming more abundant. Running a segment over and over on CNN/FOX news about people being shot on Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras or having the travel channel & Chef AZ mail in a Dr Suess show on my first NOLA trip. It doesn't matter Cafe Du Monde is going to have a line down the street either way.

That's a fair point.

But the shows are there to make money for the network, not to promote tourism, and the "tired" places are going to have more national appeal than the places the locals would like to see.

No offense but I think that's an unfair generalization. People who choose food destinations have more sophisticated palates and are more savvy about choosing where they dine, given limited number of breakfasts, lunches and dinners while they're travelling.

Do you think the show wouldn't make money if they went to places that are widely successful in the local community (Coquette, Atchafalaya, etc.) and just not as nationally known as Cafe du Monde?

I'm legitimately asking. Because I'd like to think the reason I'd be interested in that isn't because of my bias from being from LA. I'd love to watch a show about "newer" local hot spots in NYC, Chicago, L.A., etc. too!

I love shows where they go off the beaten path and show what the people who live there love to eat.

Hell, I've seen a show about Vegas that did exactly that. People live and work and raise families in Vegas too. The city seems like 24/7 party, but there is more to the city than that. Same thing for New Orleans. If I wasn't from LA, I'd be genuinely curious about what the people who aren't partying on Bourbon like to do/eat.

I thought it was all good, cept the tomatoes in Commanders gumbo and that Johnny's boils the roast beef.

They would both be crucified it they posted that on this board.

That episode was terrible and not because of the places the show chose to focus on... fair enough...

but was Zimmern even on site at one place? It sounded like he read the voice over, to stock NOLA restaurant interview footage, while still in bed... lame..

I noticed this too. Maybe they are making this series with leftover footage from the Bizarre Food series. Take non-bizarre footage, add voice over and rebrand as Delicious Destinations.

Didn't he go frogging with Link? No mention of Link's place on the show. It did make me want to get a po-boy

Seems like I've seen or heard of other poboy joints that boil the meat. Can't think of any, though. I'm assuming a gravy is made from the broth.

True, but I have had several acquaintances from college come in town and go to Mother's and all thought it was great. We're spoiled.
