But she wasn't....remember Amber Vinson? Another nurse that cared for Duncan that got Ebola?
And as for the others that cared for him?
Where is her accountability? Why is it not her fault?

Because the proper protocols weren't put in place?

Don't you just love these photos they take of them staring off somewhere? Even the dog is kind of doing it.

If you are not given the proper protective gear by a hospital and then not even told the guy was positive for Ebola until later.....you still saying that is the nurse's fault?
They weren't given any in depth training on what to wear. Told to watch videos on youtube to figure it out. I took classes at work for Ebola training(several hours of classes)....there are a TON of steps you have to follow....and if ONE step isn't done right....you done f'd up and possibly exposed yourself to Ebola. In fact....it's supposed to be two people...one telling you step by step what to do with the gear and making sure you are following the proper steps in donning and doffing the gear.

So she needs her hand held?

So she gets no blame on her own in your opinion?

LNCHBOX just wants to be the idiot that argues everything. Even though he is clearly lacking some common sense in this thread.

Pham should be suing Duncan's family.
No money. Look for the deep pockets.

To care for a patient infected with a deadly virus?
Yea, some degree of hand holding may be neccessary!

And Duncan's family didn't violate HIPAA either.

Yea, I'm the idiot for thinking this woman shoulders some responsibility for allowing herself to contract a disease when she is supposed to be a trained professional.
Amazing that the nurse is siding with the nurse.

Pham better hope she wins because she will never get another job in the medical field after this. She will be lucky to get a job anywhere if they know who she is.
Agreed. She better win this damn thing, because otherwise she's screwed as far as having any job in the healthcare industry is concerned. They don't take too kindly on being sued by their own employees.

All the training in the world on standard precautions don't mean a thing when a patient is puking everywhere and the hospital has only given you a flimsy gown and gloves and mask to protect yourself.

If the hospital knew he had ebola and didn't tell her and/or released her medical records with pressuring her or not even obtaining her permission, the hospital should be at fault. If nobody but Duncan knew he had ebola and the hospital told her as soon as they found out and provided adequate training and materials then it's not the hospitals fault, sometimes shite happens. Honestly, after doing a little bit of research, it seems like the former was the situation and not the later.

She is a trained professional, but I'm sure nursing school doesn't cover every disease/virus in the world. Different illnesses need to be treated differently and have different protocols.

Yeah the horrible working conditions at that hospital prompted nursing unions everywhere to demand hospitals all over the nation provide adequate protection.
That hospital had soiled linens of Mr Duncan piled up to the ceiling. Nurses were told to watch youtube videos to figure out how to protect themselves. There wasn't enough of the gear there so many were using basic plastic gowns that had their necks fully exposed.

Amazing how she was the only person to contract the disease out of everyone else there that worked with the patient. How were the others able to make it through all the excuses you're making for this nurse, nurse?
Ebola isn't that easy to transmit. Given that they were probably in standard precautions (surgical mask, gloves), it would have required some sort of break in the skin or mistake when removing PPE.

mistake when removing PPE.
And removing PPE when caring for Ebola isn't the same as just taking off a regular gown for your patient in contact isolation cause he has c diff.

Agreed. I think about half of our training for the serious communicable disease unit (exact % escapes me now) was on safely removing gear. Was also the hardest part for people to do correctly.
