I don't know if that's happened to anyone else who wants to or feels like posting, but goddamn. That'll wake you up, after you recognize lol

As a former electrician, 220 (or actually 240) scared me more than any other voltage. With 110 voltage, you can pull yourself off of it for the most part. 240 is much stronger, enough to grab you and not knock you off of it.
People say 110v has killed more people than any other voltage. That is just because it is the most common.

Never happened to me but from what I've been told it is better to get shocked by 220 than 110.

It was what powered the central unit.

Yeah but have you rode the lightning of an X26 taser?

You lucky you ain't posting from the ER or worse. I was an electrician in the navy and I have been zapped a few times but I am still here to tell about it.
Glad you can laugh about it

Yeah, felt like a good few seconds of just feeling paralyzed

I heard 220 will knock you off while 110 will grab you.

Doesn't the Navy use a different Hz then the normal 60Hz system. I thought I heard the Navy uses something closer to 200Hz. At 60Hz, the pulse is close to the same rate as your heart. At 200Hz, if you get hit, you are on a heart monitor for a week because it may have interrupted the rhythm of your heart.

No, 220 is still a very low voltage and will grab the frick out of you. 220 isn't really 220, it is double 110, just like there 480 volt is actually two 277v (two of three phases).
If you put a meter on a 220 coil with the other lead to ground, it will only read 110 (120v). If you read on either side of the coil, it will read 220v.

I got lit up by 220 when working on my dryer years ago. My father-in-law told me it was off but he flipped the wrong switch. (Dryer wasn't working for me to tell by turning it on.) Anyway it threw me against the wall and I thought I was having a frigging heart attack. My pulse was erratic and running like crazy. Took me a couple of hours to settle down. I feel fortunate that it didn't do more damage. Without a doubt, I turn off all power "myself" before I work on electric things now. That stuff scares me silly.

Dude, you can buy toughless voltage testers for pretty cheap so you don't have to hope that you flipped the right switch. I suggest that anyone doing any wiring do this.

LOL. Yeah, I know that "NOW" my friend. I was 22 and young and dumb and trustworthy. Things you learn as you live and get older.

Unplug the damn thing.
Here is a funny (not funny) story.
As a seasoned electrician, my sister asked me to change her doorbell transformer. A doorbell transformer is something like 18 volts, stepped down from 120v. I took my time, made sure the power was off, etc. The transformer was jumped off the light switch for the attic light. After pulling the switch out of the box, I change the transformer, etc. I go down and power it up to make sure it works, everything was fine. Before I went down, I left the light switch hanging out of the box but still wired up (just in case it didn't work). I go back up the ladder and to this day I can still hear my sister say, "Do you want me to go back and shut the power off?"
I tell her, no, its just 18v. I reach up and grab each side of that light switch to push it back in. It fricking lit my arse. Luckily I was only using my finger tips to grab it. If I had grabbed it with a fist, it would have killed. The current was running in one hand, through my chest, to my other had (I was standing on the wood attic ladder)

Not sure about the navy hz thing. I just know when I got zapped I felt sore for a few hours.
And a lot more cautious after a good zap.

LOL again. Yeah now you tell me. Truthfully though, it was a pain in the rear to move as we had just gotten married and were college poor so lived in a trailer for the first six months and it was a very tight fit. I was too frigging lazy and just trusted my FIL. I had taken off the top of the unit to look at the timer and such.
BTW, glad you are ok as well.
