I was under the impression that flourescent bulbs were supposed to last a long time, so several years ago, I dropped some cash and changed all of my incandescent bulbs out with flourescent...now these $8 bastards are starting to go out and they are not lasting any longer than the incandescent bulbs did....

anyone else seeing premature failure of these things?...

The problem is, the incandescent bulbs that I was paying $.75 apiece were lasting longer than the bulbs that cost $8 apiece...no way that is cost effective...

They are bullshite. I used to write the date on them son I could see just how long they were in there. If it was a light I turned off and on frequently, I was lucky to get 6-8 months. What a fuxking scam. Not to mention the mercury in them requiring proper waste disposal. Like anyone does that.

Save energy! Kill the environment and our pocket books while we are at it!!

For me they last longer and use a lot less energy. Switching over to CFL I noted a nice drop in the energy bill. Lately been switching to LED.
Getting used to the color/glow is the biggest difference with LED. Supposed to last like 27 years though.

My uncle, a master electrician, said that the CFL bulbs are notorious for having poor reliability. No one gets anywhere near the advertised usage time. He started writing the dates on them just to prove it.

Supposedly you can get a refund, but no one ever does it.

The higher cost upfront is supposed to be offset by the energy savings AND extended life of the bulb. Having to frequently replace them defeats the purpose.

Turning fluorescent bulbs on uses more electricity than leaving them on.
