Yeah, because the river is the same size/volume in those cities as it is through Baton Rouge.

It's not even so much the size of the river, but the fact that any crossing of it south of the Old Bridge in BR (or South of Exxon) has to be high enough in clearance to allow ocean going vessels (tankers) to pass underneath. Building such bridges is a much more involved (and expensive) endeavor than those in St. Louis, Davenport, or the TWin Cities.

Almost got in a wreck at the one on Dalrymple this morning. The driver in front of me slammed on their brakes and came to a complete stop before entering the roundabout, despite there not being another car anywhere in sight.
Such a simple concept that so many people seem completely unable to grasp.

I think the higher volume/long radius roundabouts (like Nicholson/Burbank would have to be) are a different ballgame. I lived in Portsmouth NH for a while and we had a traffic circle at the intersection of the I-95 exit ramp, US-1, and a liquor store. We called it "The Portsmouth Death Trap", especially when we had to head that way to re-stock on liquor at 9PM.
Also, they take their state motto "Live Free or Die" quite literally.

The channel in St Louis is nowhere near as wide as in Baton Rouge.

Dude, the ramp at Pecue is definitely needed. No waste there.
