How do you guys feel about this team. So far we have only lost one game. In that game we made many unconventional errors. Swept all three weekend series. Two double headers. Our bats seem to be good, defense is still a little shaky, and pitching need to come around in certain areas. Overall how does the rant think we will do this year?

Hard to have a feel with such a weak schedule

I think the infield needs to get better and they will.
That lined snag by Zardon was ridiculous. Would be cool if someone made a gif.

Not ready to say Omaha yet, but I like the fact that we are deep with bats and pitching. Zardon has to be more consistent at 3rd.

Even in our "subpar" years under Mainieri we pretty much dominated the OOC competition. You really can't tell until about 3 or 4 weeks into SEC play. However, next weekend may tell us something.

Houston is struggling. I wish they weren't. Although I still think Friday will be a good game, it may not be the measuring stick I was hoping for.

Too many walks allowed
Too many errors
Too many base running mistakes
Not panicking, but room for improvement.

Not a fan of all the errors.

Huh?

Only two mistakes I can think of: Bregman trying to steal 3rd with 2 outs and Stevenson missing the sign to be waved home. Am I missing others?

As for the errors, It's really just been Zardon (needs to be fixed), pitchers (some fluky shite) and backup guys.

I really like the bats this season from a season ago.
I really like how we are running like crazy.
I hope Lange can be the dominant Friday night guy.

Zardon had 2 bad games. He was looking good early and looked good in game 3 this weekend. I'm not ready to say he needs to move. The pitchers have been rediculous. 2 by Poche in one game. 3 by Norman. Bouman's only attempt. I think those alone make things seem much worse.

ridiculous*
Haven't we had one or two thrown out trying to stretch out another bag?

Agreed, over these last four games I saw him make a hella nice pick on the short hop v. SLU & then that snag last night against PU. He's got the tools, just not fully comfortable there quite yet.

Hale tried to take 3rd yesterday but it was the second out and an rbi hit with the lead. Nothing wrong with that. Not a mistake.
I appreciate the spelling help.

Yes, but considering the amount of XBH we've had (with a few of those because of taking the risk of going an extra bag), I would say it's largely been worth it.

I am surprised at the errors.
Defense is supposed to be the strongest part of this team.
The only position we replaced was 3B.
I'm pretty confident the errors will become a rarity in the future.
The real question is: can all these freshman starters keep cool heads against tough competition?

The aggressiveness is welcomed after the last few years of not taking advantage of our speed. Outfielders and pitchers need to know we're willing to steal or take an extra bag. Adds pressure.

I think this will be a non issue for Lange. Godfrey, though, is an emotional dude. I could see him getting rattled easily on the road.
