I believe we've got the highest elevation along the trail which makes for some beautiful scenery.

I believe it is Mt. Rogers

Clingmans Dome is the highest point of the AT. I think Mt Washington in New Hampshire may be second highest.

Eta- I was wrong. Mt Guyot is second. Washington third highest.

I would at least like to try a section of it.

Here are a couple of YouTube links with some beautiful video of the AT.

I like the second link the best, though. LINK

This one is more realistic and just has the sounds of the trail. Timber rattler is towards the end, but I never saw the bear in this clip. Guess it must be on one of the other clips.

I haven't but it's on my list. I was actually scheduling for this year (started planning about three years ago) but a lot of stuff came up at work. One day....

Is that picture of Mount Mitchell?

It's of the look out tower on top of Clingmans dome in TN. Mt. Mitchell is about another 1 hour+ north east in the Black Mountains of NC.

Have you read:

It's a good read. The author found it to be much more difficult than he realized.

The Climb to Katahdin

My buddy did the whole trail a while back and made a nice little documentary on it - he did a great job on it, and highly recommend checking it out for anyone interested.

I did it! Hiked the entire width of it in 2012. Pretty cool experience. Naw, actually have hiked only about 6 miles of its length.

I did the GSMNP portion one summer in high school, great hike. Just a bit over 70 miles from what I remember. Would love to do the whole thing, but by the time I have time to do something like that, I won't be physically capable of doing something like that.

I may start making plans to hike the GSMNP portion of it in the next few years. That should only take a few weeks.

Only takes about a week for most people unless you just want to screw around and take your time.

Isn't the GSMNP section like 70 miles? A week seems like a long time.

I

The book on "smartphone" is even better. The person who narrated it is funny. I have the book and it's on my phone. Good stuff for sure!

Yeah it's a bit over 70. People tend to spend more time sightseeing along it. You could do it a lot quicker if you wanted. He just said something about doing it for a few weeks, definitely shouldn't take that long.

I saws that film. I remember them not making the whole trail. They did summit Katahdin but skipped ahead some. They had a ton of weight in their packs.

It was a good film.
