So, in an elimination game of a 6-person double-elimination Pop-a-Shot Tournament, during one person's round, the two balls got stuck in the basket and the time eventually ran out with that person having a lower score than his competitor.

What would you do in this instance?

A. Do you call it a flaw in the Pop-a-Shot design and you let the person start over?

or

B. Do you chalk it up to bad luck and the person should have to deal with the consequence of having balls stuck, which may have been caused by him shooting too quickly?

The other flaw in Pop-a-Shot is that it sometimes doesn't record a made shot on scoreboard...but we didn't encounter any of that in this tournament.

Thoughts?

B no doubt. The risks you take for throwing those balls up there too quickly.

ETA: could he not pop them out with the other ball? How many seconds from when they got stuck until the round ended?

Out of those options I think I'd go A

Seems pretty crappy to lose over something like that

Who would want a cheap win like that? Do the round over...if it happens again to him, we'll, then it just wasn't meant to be.

This. All that matters is the scoreboard.

I go with B also, but you'll never convince the losing kid you're doing the right thing.

That said, if you went with A and the other kid loses, you'll never convince that one you did the right thing.

We did a do-over and the kid whose balls got stuck ended up posting a higher score than the other kid.

Well tough titty for the kid that got his balls stuck in the hole. He will appreciate it one day.

Verdict = No do overs

it really is a tough call. Not sure if I would allow a do-over next time.
