About to watch a movie. The best movie that has ever been made.

Shawshank is so good that if you have had the misfortune of going a year or so without having seen it, watching it on a Saturday night is far superior than watching anything else.

Anyone that says Shawshank is not the best movie ever made is working an angle to seem smarter than everyone else.

It really is amazing the movie went almost unnoticed at the box office.

Heck, I read the King story but didn't see the movie in the theater. The only reason I watched it was it was one of the initial DVDs I got from Columbia House.

I believe it is the most complete and worthy of top 1

The Godfather is the best movie ever made in my lifespan with Godfather II as a close second (or first for some). /no angle

The Shawshank Redemption is probably as close as it gets to those two imo.

I have seen the Godfather 15 or 20 times. I love 1 and 2. Shashank is the greatest movie ever made.

I'll watch that one after I watch Bladerunner and then The Wrath of Khan (RIP Leonard Nimoy).

Shawshank is quietly one of the more quotable movies ever, even more than Caddyshack or Holy Grail. Who here has not said to a buddy:

"I've been known to locate things from time to time."

"It seems the sisters have taken quite a liking to you."

"Bull queers take by force."

Was a huge flop at the box office

Huge.

CAn also name 20 films better. Outside of Dark Knight, this is the most overrated film on this board.

On phone, but here goes:

Seven Samurai
Casablanca
Cinema Paradiso
Pan's Labarynth
The Killer

And that's using one American film.

Ok. I just wanted to get a feel for you.

I assumed you would put up a list like that.

I've seen all but Cinema Paridiso on your list.

Shawshank nut drags all of those movies.

All great movies but if you can look me in the screen and tell me Casablanca is a better movie than Shawshank, I'll call you a pretentious asswipe. I've seen Casablanca a few times and it is not.

I'm just not a Stephen King fan. His books are overwrought and about twice as long as they should be. That translates over into the movies.

I did.

I assumed there would be an old classic, a Kurosawa movie or two and other over rated shite.

I am only surprised you didn't have Amelie.
