The one thing that nobody mentions about the offense last year

The drops at crucial points of several games. I remember a lot of drops that happened at the worst possible times that either killed drives or left points on the table (on the off chance that Jennings put the ball on the money).

Q: Was last year's passing game meltdown all due to the quarterbacks?

A: "One of the biggest things we struggled with last season and something we will be greatly improved in is our receivers handling press coverage.

"Great receivers coming out of high school haven't seen a press corner in their careers. High school teams don't have corners on a consistent basis that are going to come up and press a Trey Quinn or a Malachi Dupre. Then it becomes the easiest fade throw in history. In high school, coaches are going to play the defenders off the receiver, they are going to play conservative.

"All of a sudden, receivers who have caught hitches and slants their whole high school careers are battling for their lives every down in college.

"Our ability to attack schematically and attack press coverage technique-wise is going to be dramatically better. You'll see the improvement. It has already (improved) because our guys are bigger and stronger

"That was part of the problem last year. From a quarterback standpoint, young quarterbacks transitioning from high school to college have got to adjust their ability to throw to the guys that are getting banged around. You saw that play out last season, even in the Texas A&M game. They play a press corner, we (starting QB Anthony Jennings) throw it in there and they intercept it on the first series of the game.

"Is that the quarterback? Is that the receiver? It's all of us. We've got to coach it better. We've got to teach it better. There's no doubt in my mind we'll get that solved."

It was the weakest WR corps we've had in awhile. Too young. People like to talk about OBJ and Landry but fail to ever mention the work that Boone, Wright, etc put in to help those two.

The drops were not that crucial last season.

Seen far worse seasons with crucial drops, so I disagree.

Sure. Trey Quinn makes the catch (two catches, either will do) and LSU runs out the clock, and beats Bama 13-10. and that does not require the correct call on the punt to the 1 foot line which was called wrong by the official whose view was blocked and brought out. Diarse moved into the starting slot position after that.
At this moment, Quinn is the #3 WR and is not in the slot conversation.

You must not have seen the bama game. That is the only reason to post something that ridiculous.

I agree with everything he said. Another offseason in the weight room and Coach Ball coming in should fix a lot of that.

Our margin for error was much smaller this year because of WR and QB play....more than any year I can remember

True, and from some guys who had a reputation of being surehanded coming out of HS. Hopefully they'll fix that in the offseason.

We only lost one game when we ran the ball 50+ times. Bama.

I guess beating UF, Ole Miss, UK and TAMU was meaningless. We were better off just losing those games rt?

I've got a lot of faith that Trey Quinn is going to leave Baton Rouge as a legendary Tiger but last year he took a lot of looks away from a very effective John Diarse.

But I'm not at practice everyday.

Throw the ball to the TE's.

The problem with that is in Cam's offense, the deep threat is always the first read.

TEs were actually running free most of the year, but Jennings never got his head around in time.

the problems with this recieving core go much farther than just drops. They had trouble getting off the line an getting any sort of separation all season. Though they be great on paper, in actual play they were the worst group ever at LSU. They had as bad a season as the QB's and contributed to their problems. Add it all up, bad QB play, bad receiver play, and bad scheme/play calling, and you get what we got last season in the pass offense.

Last year's experiences will transform into corrections and notably marked improvement all around this upcoming season. It makes me quiver to think AJ will start again but it seems like Cam leans toward experience. BHarris will certainly have better command of the playbook so I expect him to be given a legit shot - no doubt, he's the better talent.
Think about it - there's a reason Hawkins and Alexander came back. This offense will POUND on the ground opening up the passing game.
There IS plenty reason to be excited. I'd rather the press underhype us than overhype us.
Peace, Love, and Boudin to all!

Freaking this. The offense, as a UNIT last year was just entirely too young. Too many of the little things were under developed, causing the entire offense to sputter. People put the blame on the QBs , but they weren't getting a whole lot of help. This team got way better once the coaches saw this and decided to just pound it out and play ball control. The offense should see DRAMATIC improvements this year or else something is seriously wrong with the scheme/coaches.
