As an Astros fan I have a strong dislike for all NL central teams.

no need to feel that way now bud. embrace the cubbies, reds and redbirds like never before.

you have different teams to hate now, whoever is in whatever division the Astros were exiled to.

The lameness of middle America is irrelevant.

The point is -- it's contradictory to say Cards fans are arrogant, unlikable ect when the middle states of the country are also the most down to earth, polite, grounded people in the country.

Busch stadium is perhaps the only professional sports venue in the world that will applaud for an opposing team.

Think about that.

AT&T Park in San Francisco did a commemoration for Tony Gwynn for an entire game while the Padres were in town.

San Fran has great fans.

Commemorations are a little different than impromptu applauses for an opponent. Everyone does commemorations.

no. There are lots of sports worldwide where fans will clap for something another team does. I was pointing out that his perhaps was a hinge word for stretching his argument a little farther

Sure. It's a big world with lots of sports and lots of sports fans.

I remember when the Astros clinched the pennant at Busch and there was applause after final out. Bob Brenly, or whoever was the FOX analyst on the No. 2 team at the time, said something to the effect of "listen to this classy crowd applaud the opposition" when I thought they were just applauding the Cards' season.

Perception can cloud rational judgment.

You're right, it is a stretch. Worldwide, I can't confirm. I think we can agree that it's the only venue in MLB or American sports that does it regularly.

Never had a nationwide TV audience is the biggest factor.

LSU fans stood and cheered a kid from Florida state when he hit three Homers in one game and that was like in 1992 or something. Please stop with the whole St Louis fans are the only ones that do that.
If you are looking for the reason the cards aren't more likable, there's one. Cuz dumbasses like you say stuff like that... and even sadder you really believe it.
