Vehicle Buyback Program

Received a call from the Toyota dealership concerning my 2008 Tacoma Pre-Runner (66,000 miles on it). "We've had a large number of inquiries about your vehicle and would like to offer you blah blah blah."
I have 12 more monthly payments to make until it's paid off.
Now I'm very aware this is just a bullshite ploy to get me to buy a new vehicle. However, is there any difference at all between this scenario and me going into the dealership on my own for a trade in?
Also, curious to know how any of you expert consumers handle situations such as these to get the most out of a potential trade-in and knocking $$$ off the sticker price.

I've gotten a couple of those on my Honda Civic. It's been paid off for a while and I like the car, so I've ignored them.
If you are interested in something newer, then I'd look at the values you might expect to receive in, go in, and demand a premium. Watch all for all the games they normally pay for a trade-in. Otherwise, what's the point of trading it in before you are ready?

Why on Earth would you trade in a Toyota with 66k miles on it? First of all - you're putting less than 10k miles a year on it.
Your grandchildren will be driving that thing. Isn't that why you bought a Toyota in the first place?
Second of all - IF you're going to let go of it - with the extreme market demand (particularly 4x4 and Prerunners) for these trucks, you will do better 100 out of 100 times selling the truck privately.
Third of all - No. Do not trade the truck in - drive it until it is no longer feasible to keep on the road (i.e., until the 2030s).
Next question?

I bought it used. The previous owner only had 9k miles on it. I bought it in 2010.

Quite honestly, I had every intention of keeping this truck forever. However, I didn't think it would hurt to see what they would offer.

My Toyota dealership does that, too. It hurts them, though, because I paid $12k for a used truck one February and by the time it got to the first oil change - in August, they offered $10,500 on their little "We want to buy your vehicle!" card - apparently not very badly.
And I lost a Tacoma to an accident in late 2011 - it was a 2002 with ~ 175k on it - USAA cut me a check for $9800 - I paid under $18k in 2004.
Best vehicle I have ever owned. I'm driving a car now, but unless they radically change, my next driver will likely be a Tacoma or 4Runner.

I wasn't in for a Tacoma but I was talking to a salesman at the dealership about their ridiculous resale value. Guy told me that he sold a 2YO used one for about $1000 under brand new MSRP when they didn't have any new ones on the lot.

Keep the car, if you get a 2015 Toyota you'll have the babes flocking, then you'll date one for a year, she'll marry you for your money (you did just buy a late model Toyota after all), you'll get divorced after 2 years and she'll take half the Toyota leaving you driving a 20 year old Geo Metro with 300k miles on it.

I think what I'm going to do is see what they offer and unless it's some ridiculous offer, I'll just walk away.
It'll be nice not having a vehicle payment soon.
