I'd would check the brake light switch.

Could/should be under 100k warranty since not part of drivetrain and only 3 years old...

if it's vacuum controlled it may be just a leak and it's pretty cheap to change a vacuum hose. If it's the controller itself it will cost around $400 I would think.

Is it engaging and kicking out or won't engage? My GMC would kick out when I hit bumps. Got it fixed under warranty. I think it ended up being just a bad connection.

Might be as simple as a fuse if you haven't already checked. Check out something like "GMC/Sierra forum" with a Google search for your problem and there is sometimes good info/troubleshooting advice.

The cruise went out on my wife's jeep patriot a while back. Googled the issue and it was a bad wheel speed sensor. Ordered replacements for both rear wheels from rockauto.com for around 60 bucks and spent an hour changing them.

While we're at it. How much would it cost to fix a speed-o-meter for a 04 silverado? Already checked the brake fluid and left blinker.

Make sure your brake lights are working. On my 2003, cruise control stopped working and discovered that the driver side brake lamp would not work, replaced the bulb, and now cruise control works again.

You have to change the entire gauge cluster ( my 05) had same issue. Mine caused 2 cracked heads due to over heating when oil pump went out. My mechanic said there were several yr models that had this issue. My speedometer would act crazy sometimes it would jump around to 10mph when I was on the interstate and doing 70+
