I was tellin my grandad over the phone when I was in college how tough school was... He said "well get tough with it by God"... Even though it's a simple quote, it has always stuck with me during tough times. If anybody else had said that to me it wouldn't have meant much but he was such an influence in my life.

My dad has said 1000s of time how important "balance" is in life. Also, one of my dads good friends from college wrote me a letter (with graduation money inside) when I graduated high school that included some tips for college/life that included "don't frick off, the clock is ticking"
"Drink cheap beer and expensive wine"
"If you fall in love just enjoy it... It won't last, at least not in the way it started"
"Challenge authority, except for your boss"

Anybody else got any good stuff?

When I was a teen I took summer jobs flipping Quarter Pounders and pushing grocery carts at the Real Superstore (yes, this one) and ran into so many people who were well into their 30's doing the same damn thing.

I started taking my coursework more seriously.

Didn't pass the bar exam and my best friends older brother heard me complaining. He asked me,"Are you going to get over it?"
That helped me change my focus and pass it the next time.
