I'm just moving to Gonzales and looking for resources to get the Louisiana fishing scene figured out. I don't have a boat (but my get a kayak this year) and I like to target specks and reds.

I'm from Houston and the Academy stores in the area sell a good map book of Galveston Bay; it's got fishing spots, techniques, time of year etc. Looking for an equivalent book or site for stuff over here. Right now I've heard that the base of I 10 going over Pontchartrain is good but that's about it.

TIA.

Grand Isle area is your best bet for kayak fishing. Just drive down HWY 1 and launch

I would do as polar pop says and join a fishing club in the area...

also, you may want to take a guided trip or two...just tell the guide what you want to do and they will usually show you some decent areas to fish...

As one poster stated, there are numerous places to put in with a kayak along highway 1 on the way to grand isle; this is your best option. Many people launch off the road in Hopedale to fish Hopedale Lagoon and Lake Ameda in the fall and winter. Pointe a la Hache would be a good place to go in the fall and winter, but i would actually pay to launch at Beshel Marina. There are numerous cuts off what is called the Back Levee Canal that are very close to the marina. Good luck.
