Juve has been a power team for a while but Roma is making a push and has some great young players. But there are other teams too Napoli Fiorentina that are really good too. Plus the league has a lot of talented youngster.
Icardi kovacic and shaquri at inter. Palermo have dyabla and Vasquez. if these players stay in the league and they keep adding more can Serie A return to its former glory?

I probably spelled everything wrong

I hit enter and submitted the thread before I was able to add to the op.

But I feel like the league is getting more talented and competitive and beside from parma more financial secure.

Also after today they appear to be performing well in Europe

Dybala and Icardi are both likely gone next season from their respective clubs. Pogba is up in the air right now. They always seem to lose their star power once it's found over there.

It's totally on the rise from the past few seasons. Most clubs have figured out that you need to sell a few players if the price is too high, not give massive contracts to aging stars and sign a lot of quality youth and work on building a club owned stadium.

However, some of the huge Europa League success for Serie A is simply due to automatic CL spot. It means that clubs like Inter, Fiorentina, Napoli are actually trying when they tradionally the worst for playing complete second team + youth player call ups in the tournament.

There's really been no gap between Bundesliga and Serie A for a while though aside from not having one super team like Bayern.

Bayer Leverkussen, Shalke haven't really been better than Napoli, Roma, Fiorentina, Inter etc even when everyone talks about how "down" the league is.

You forgot to mention Parma; the richest club in Italy

Parma has been in a tailspin for years since Parmalat has all their legal troubles and pulled out. It's a miracle they were so good last year.

Doesn't mean much more for the league as a whole than a Leeds in England having hard times since Serie A has so many bigger sides.

they are pretty far behind the big 3 in terms of their coefficient. Need Milan to get good again, which they probably will once they build their new stadium.

A bit ironically, having lots of teams do pretty well in EL gives you a lot better coefficient score than a couple doing well in CL.

Serie A only narrowly trails La Liga for the highest points so far for this season.

Germany passed Serie A in the rankings in the same way: not through more CL success but more teams winning EL matches.

Will still take a while but with Serie A's lowest season coming off the rankings this year and this one being added they'll make up some ground.

At first glance, this seemed dumb to me. But if you think about it, it kind of makes sense. When evaluating the quality of several leagues and then ranking them, the best way to do it could be by judging how the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th best teams stack up against each other (Europe League).

The biggest leagues in Europe send the same teams to the CL basically every year. There are exceptions, but the familiar faces are pretty much always there. I think it's fair to say that, for the biggest clubs in the world, the CL has far and away become their number one priority. Much more important than any league title or cup trophy. And It's also becoming more and more clear that the clubs who have the most money are, for the most part, the only ones capable of winning the CL. Most of the big leagues in Europe have at least one super rich club. Some have 2 or 3. And the gap is widening. These select few clubs are outliers in a sense, and possibly less important if you want to gauge and rank leagues against one another.

Yeah, that's a really good point you make about 3-10 type matchups from the top league tables against each other and teams from smaller leagues potentially telling a lot more about the leagues than what the couple of super powers at the top do.

I guess that's the logic behind it.

The only issue has been that some clubs have usually looked at Europa League almost like friendlies but that seems to be changing since clubs like Tottenham, Fiorentina etc etc can possibly achieve a CL spot through it and the huge payout that brings.

I think many Serie A sides will continue to sell some players like Dybala outside the league.

However, I don't think that's really a bad thing in the short term since there's more young talent in Serie A than there's been in a while and clubs like Roma, Napoli, Fiorentina have recently improved by selling a couple of players at huge profits just like Atlético de Madrid did with Kun Aguero et al. . .

Italian teams, like Spanish ones, also play a lot more of a "team" oriented game. The loss of a couple of bigger names often means more in terms of marketing than quality of the teams when the money is re-invested in talent.

The thing that will tell how much Serie A improves long term will ultimately depend on investors.

I think the EPL will soon be pretty tapped out in terms of offering more clubs that are considered great "investment" buys since the TV money is already reflected in the buying prices and the "ceiling" is lower since you have so many rich clubs dominating the CL spots.

Oligarchs and their ilk will continually consider traditional clubs in great cities in Spain, Italy and, I think, France to be better investments (like PSG, AS Roma, Inter, Valencia recently).

The purchase prices will be much, much lower but the chance to rise to European spots less cluttered. It's also happening in traditionally mid-table to lower table clubs in Serie A like Bologna being bought by Americans in October.

AC Milan will also be sold eventually and, I hate to say, that will likely make an almost overnight change.

I guess I'm sounding like Monyeball but there are similar principles at play.

wm72 the dates for my trip are may 12-june16. on may 24 Lazio and Roma play. I might plan the trip around making either this game or the game on the 31st against Palermo. What game should I go to? I feel like the derby would be crazy( and crazy expensive) but I don't want to die

also what section is the best. I know you've said it before but I found tickets in Monte Mario

Good tickets. I've usually always done Distincti Sud but Monte Mario are better tickets. Better view, more calm regular families and older people usually sit there in greater numbers. They are a bit more expensive but that also makes them easier to find.

Definitely great if you get Monte Mario for the Lazio match since that one is extremely hard to get any reasonable tickets for.

Derby would be unforgettable experience but Palermo has a good team and will also be a match where the tifosi go all out with their displays etc. . .

If you go to the derby, I wouldn't really worry but you may want to avoid wearing obvious Roma gear.

It's not that it's really dangerous and not at all inside the grounds but, if you're alone or just with a couple of people it's better to just be sure to avoid any encounter with Lazio ultras you may walk past on the way and after the match.

If you just want to be peaceful and enjoy the crazed setting it's best play tourist.

Assholes from both sides are really just looking for each other to frick with.

I lived there forever and I still would usually wear regular clothes (keep my scarf in my jacket pocket etc) going back and forth around the city just avoid bs with, say, a couple of douchbags in the metro etc etc. . .
