Neill Blomkamp apparently believes that his next movie will be the true ending to Ripley's story.

Three gets a bad rap. Four was passable. Both had a lot of input from Weaver. This is basically like Superman Returns trying to squeeze itself in between 3 and 4. With so many years past 2, it's going to likely come off as a cheap stunt.

That's great news as a huge Alien/Aliens fan. Everything went downhill from there imo. I wouldn't go as far as to say that I hated Alien 3 but it was no where near as good as the first two. Alien Resurrection was shite. I'm exited to see where this goes.

Sure, but the concept is brilliant. Fincher was able to sneak in most of what makes the movie great, though I do agree with him that a whole army of Bishops walking in at the end in labcoats would have been outstanding.
But Alien3 is all about hopelessness, which doesn't make for a good blockbuster. at no point in the film does anyone in the film or in the audience have the slightest hope anyone is going to survive. It's punishingly bleak. I love it for its sheer ballsiness (and for the Alien bred from a dog).

I hated 3 when I was first saw it as a kid. I ve grown to appreciate it particularly the extended assembly cut. It has my favorite score from all the films. I really dont care for Resurrection. It does seem strange that Weaver says she wants to give a proper ending to her character considering like you said she had a lot of input in her character dying in 3. I dont see it as a cheap stunt yet. It seems like it would be easier from a writing stand point to come up with different characters (like Alien Isolation did using Ripleys daughter) than trying to shoehorn a story that includes the cast from Aliens 30 years later but maybe the writers can pull it off.

Aliens is a puffed-up yet entertaining action flick. It's CoD with giant roaches.

Now I don't dislike Aliens, but it just isn't AS interesting as 3.

It's nice to pretend 3 and Resurrection never happened, but for the love of god, the world doesn't need another Ripley movie.

I started an Alien spec as a way to get writing juices flowing. Maybe I should edit it and submit to people.

3 was pretty bad. Just because Fincher directed it doesn't make it a masterpiece.
It should be on everybody's all time bottom list just for the teaser trailer which got everybody's hopes up only to brutally crush them.
