Anyone ever vacation in Puerto Rico?

I have four free nights at any Hilton in the U.S. (includes PR). Wife wants to take a beach vacation - Puerto Rico has a regular Hilton and a Waldorf Astoria resort that are eligible. Flights from MSY are $360.
I can't say that I know anyone that has ever been. Anyone on the OT have experience?

I've been and we stayed at a resort in Dorado that was nice but I can't remember the name. And my wife went a couple years ago with her office and they stayed at the Ritz in San Juan. It was a nice place, but she and I both agree, there are better places to vacation. Don't expect anything to be cheap because they are a US territory.

anc, I've been there a few times. You'll have fun. Tour the Bacardi plant, visit the rainforest, hang out downtown, snorkel, go to the old fort. Lots to do and see for 4-5 days

The main method of transportation on the islands is the donkey. This is because donkeys don’t have working sex organs so they cannot be used for reproduction with the male or female inhabitants of any island. But for years islanders have been attempting to reproduce with the donkeys anyway. When this attempt at reproduction occurs on the island the result is a snrakle fish which is consummated in the male’s penis and ejaculated in the ocean a month after the donkey-man sex act. A similar attempt at reproduction occurs in the American islands and the exact result is pretty sick. Basically for every donkey-women sex act the donkey will lay about one billion hermit crab eggs, the eggs hatch approximately fifteen seconds after the sex and feed off of the warm caucus of the dead donkey. What the donkey died? Yep that’s right, the women usually kill the donkey after it has laid its eggs and when she realizes that she just had sex with a fricking donkey. Each year thousands of the islands' inhabitants and their donkeys drown during attempts to reach the neighboring island for normal intercourse.

The Waldorf Astoria in Fajardo is one of the nicest resorts in the Caribbean. My wife and I have been several times and are planning our next trip back. The golf course there is phenomenal; world class spa for the ladies. The resort is right on the water, but located on the top of a bluff; you have to take the resorts private water taxi to the private island to enjoy the beach.
PR offers a great deal of things to do outside of the resort. The rain-forest is fairly close and is a must see IMO.

Today, the island is considered Puerto Rican for Olympic and beauty pageant purposes, American for Pell Grant, Social Security, and government aid purposes, and Latin American for cultural purposes. Also, foreign for Dell PC Internet sales purposes, American for Gateway PC Internet sales purposes, very very poor for population welfare purposes and very very prosperous for corporate welfare purposes.
In due appreciation of his inability to pay Federal income taxes and in recognition of his legendary appetite for Pot, entertainer Willie Nelson was recently named an Honorary Puerto Rican.

My wife and I went and had a blast. The food there is great and so is the eye candy. Definitely a good place to vacation. Since you got Hilton rewards, the Hilton Carribe (might have spelled that wrong) is awesome. It's in a great location as far as proximity to Old San Juan and Condado, and they have their own private beach so you're not on top of the people next to you.

This is the route I am leaning. The resort looks amazing. I'm thinking about renting a car at SJU, and driving to the rainforest for a half day/day trip. Looking at the map, there are plenty of restaurants in and around the Waldorf Astoria.

A warning ahead of time. People in Puerto Rico drive like shite. I mean 100x worse than Louisiana drivers. To Puerto Ricans; the shoulder, turn lanes, and the median are all just extra lanes to drive in. Out by the rain forest it's not as bad, but getting out of San Juan will be an adventure.

So I have read. If I stay at the Caribe, I probably don't need a car, but the Waldorf shuttle one way is more expensive than renting a car for 5 days, plus, if I want to do the rainforest tours, I'd need some way to get there.

The Caribe is fine for a long weekend. Plenty to do. Go.

I wouldn't say Dorado is the greatest beach on Earth, but PR is awesome.
We stayed in Old San Juan for a few days and drove to Fajardo and stayed over there for a few days. Do the rain forest tour, do a bio bay tour, walk around OSJ, and if you have time, spend a day or a night on the island of Culebra and go to Flamenco Beach.

The area immediately around the resort is not very nice; I couldn't recommend a local restaurant. But the resort has three or four different restaurants. And I'm sure they make good (safe) recommendations.
Driving can be a pain due to traffic in San Juan. You will be fine with a car rental; just be prepared for gridlock.
One of the fun things you can do is to go on an Adventure Tour. The rain forest has one that involves canyoning (zip lines, repel, rock climbing, etc.). I also did one on the other side of the island that was spelunking (same thing, but in caves).
The beaches in this area of PR are as nice as anywhere in the Caribbean. The bio-luminescent lagoon is also a must; the resort will have kayaks and group tours.
