Do you realize how long people have been saying stuff like this?

None. Lost them in the boating accident that I lost my guns

I'm letting TTT hold all of mine.
(ETA: In all seriousness - I have about 3k of ammo - all types, less than 1/3 of that being .22 lr. I'd like to stock 3200 rounds of Mini Mags, but by the box, they're still running 10 to 12 cents a piece - any way you slice it - either in store (with tax) or internet, with shipping - people are selling the 1600 cases of it on gunbroker for $300 or better )
Ideally, I would have ~ 1000 5.56mm, ~1000 .40, 2500 9mm, and 3200 .22lr - even then that is only to hold over for brief shortages - not for the end of the world.
Downshift has another point - preparing only has value to a certain point - if there really is a shooting war, you're going to have to resupply as you go - i.e. take ammo off of people you kill. 95% of folks in this country aren't psychologically ready to deal with that reality - and all it entails.

The people who have lost are the dumbasses racing each other down the bullet isle to rake up those two boxes of $25/50 Remington's they saw on facebook.

I bought 1000 rounds about 6 years ago or more.
Got just under 500 left.

306 to be exact.

how do you feel the need to replenish after shooting when you have 32k? If I have over 100 rounds of something I shoot it.
Posted on 2/25/15 at 1:31 pm to Hu_Flung_Pu
I have around 9-10k rounds but I go through it at a pretty good clip.
Recently joined a range and take the kids when I go. They can shoot faster than I can reload. I have 3 .22 pistols and 5 or 6 .22 rifles.

I have approximately 25K rounds. And your statement is BS. I've been buying this stuff slowly since the late 90s. I haven't bought more than a brick in over 3 years, well before Newtown / Sandy Hook happened.
Don't hate on people who saw what was coming and decided to lay in a decent supply while the price was cheap. I'm not a neckbearder, my supply is to ensure I have enough ammo for my own use.

This is a wise man.
You can listen to people like this and plan ahead or go through the shortages without ammo again.
It will happen again.

The reason that we are in an ammo shortage right now is because people buy up everything right now to store on a shelf. They are the cause of the shortage. Ammo manufacturers are making more rimfire ammo than they ever have.

OK. And? Last I looked it wasn't illegal to do so.

It's a self fulfilling prophecy. All the hoarders grabbing up the ammo because they are scared of a shortage are actually causing the shortage they are so worried about. And causing prices to rise while they're at it.
But feel free to spend your money how you want. If having tens of thousands of rounds of .22lr on the shelf makes you feel good, by all means, hoard away.

I have been going and shooting 2-300 rounds each outing to figure out what my gun liked. Now that I know, it'll drop to 100 if I'm by myself. No way I'd ever need 32k though

I have between 1500-2000, and that will last me quite awhile.
Last time out, my brother and I shot off some older ammo that was actually beginning to get cruddy. It still was able to load in my old revolver, and I just had to clean the heck out of it afterwards !
There are multiple issues affecting 22lr stock; and certainly one of those issues is hoarding. I don't really see the fall of US civilization coming, so I don't need to stock up on ammo as possible currency (some folks actually do).
Another issue is the type of 22lr weapons we see. Used to be, we were looking at bolt action rifles and revolvers. Somebody commented about going through 300 rounds in a single range session; I couldn't fathom that with bolt-action. I'd lose my mind, and certainly my focus.
However, we're now seeing a lot of AR platforms with 22lr conversions, and similar types of firearms. I myself own a GSG (the MP5 clone), I have 4 25 rd magazines. If I'm just shooting to spray, and/or want to test reliable feeding, then sure, I can go through 10 magazines pretty quick. If I and my son take that rifle to the range (and not much else to shoot), then we certainly can go through a brick in 1 session.

In what lifetime would you need thirty two thousand rounds of .22 ammo? You won't. You won't shoot it.

we shot 15,000 rounds in 2014 and that was scaling it back.

The military doesn't even fire close to that many rounds per service member on an annual range. This 10-35,000 rounds of .22 LR is completely uneccessary. Why don't people work on practicing several different weapons with different rounds instead of shooting BB-guns?
