I lean more this way. Mixology just doesn't do it for me. I'd rather drink a beer or wine, and if I'm drinking liquor it usually doesn't involve more than 3 ingredients.

I will occasionally have a cocktail. For special occasions, like the Derby, I'll mix up a batch of Mint Juleps. But that is just simple syrup, mint, and bourbon. And for Christmas, one of my wife's uncles made some egg nog and brought it. But just having a drink after work or with dinner, I stick to traditional stuff.

it doesn't make much sense to drown good booze in fruit juice or anything else for that matter.

I think there's a big difference between what craft cocktail bars are doing vs. what some restaurants pass off as cocktails.

In more traditional/old school restaurants, the martini list is filled with drinks that have 1 liquor and 4 juices. But in my experience at places who have legit craft cocktails, the other things supplementing the liquor are in minimal amounts. They're generally very strong drinks.. which sometimes means small glasses, but they're not diluted with Hawaiian Punch

This is incorrect. Its a misconception tied to prohibition era drinking. But cocktails have been around a lot longer and utilizing great ingredients since long before prohibition
