Sometimes I get really adventurous and add ice.

Like my father always said, we're having mixed drinks. We take bourbon and mix it with ice and a glass. Ice optional.

I lean more this way. Mixology just doesn't do it for me. I'd rather drink a beer or wine, and if I'm drinking liquor it usually doesn't involve more than 3 ingredients.

Generally every weekend, but that not's all I drink when I'm out.

I recently had an adventurous drink called a Sazerac in New Orleans. It was pretty good. Also, something called a "hand grenade". They put this floating plastic object into the drink, and there's this creepy guy in a costume who looks like the plastic object which is floating in the drink, which didn't make it taste any better. I steered away from something called a "hurricane" due to superstition. I don't trust any Irishmen with specialty cocktails (or Bill Cosby for that matter).

Since I manage a "cocktail bar" I try and avoid it when I'm off and stick to the trusty dive. Even when I go to cure I get a shot and a beer. I do enjoy a Vieux Carre and Gin Fizz though.

There's several bars around here known for making cocktails the proper way they were meant to be made and served. I branch out at those places when I go. I look on the cocktail menu for the bourbon based ones first.

Put down the Tom Waits album bro.

I don't even know what that means. I've heard of Tom Waits but couldn't pick out a single song.

(I listened to a few songs and I understand why I don't know. Crap stuff.)

I used to drink these a zillion years ago and nobody knows how to make them anymore.

Spin some up at home. You just have to be willing to invest in Cherry Heering, Benedictine, and Cointreau.

Capital idea! Thanks for the link too.

Good video. I'm going to learn to make that bad boy for my new job.
(assuming I graduate from getting the ice).

I tried this on Valentine's day.

I received what looked like antifreeze, and tasted like kool-aid and it was like $12.

I went back to beer

If you don't mind me asking, where?

I ask because some restaurants (Little Village, Sullivans, etc.) offer a "martini list" that is just a crappy fruit-vodka drink poured into a fancy glass.

Nothing I've ever had at a place like Cure has tasted like Kool-Aid. Of course, that might be due to the type of drinks I choose I don't like sweets.
I am absolutely a beer girl at the end of the day, but I love going try different cocktails at Cure-type places. And of course, I am a sucker for a dry slightly dirty gin martini.

"Craft cocktails" are out of control. That said, I really do appreciate a well made cocktail by someone who really knows what they're doing and isn't just throwing random shite together to be hip. There really is skill and good sense of flavor that goes into making a good cocktail (and having the right ingredients).

On an ordinary after work pit stop, though, I'll go for a pint and shot.

Eh. You could say the same thing for beer, vodka etc.

People like different.

Local Italian place in Chicago burbs.

And yeah, it was my poor choice of drink selection. If it's not brown liquor or beer, I don't really like it.

I tried, though

Most cocktails were originally created to hide the fact that people were drinking rot gut/ bathtub booze. Today's liquors are constantly vying to be the purest and cleanest forms of their craft. With that in mind, it doesn't make much sense to drown good booze in fruit juice or anything else for that matter.
