Small law firm? People who had known each other for a while and developed relationships?

not a professional team where the players shed blood and sweat for each other and depend on teamwork for success.
Probably a blown up sentiment. These guys are professionals who frequently change teams and have short careers.
It was probably simply crappy on the part of ownership to not recognize it until afterwords with a player who has been with the franchise for that long, but it might speak more to DeAngelo's relationship with his team mates that almost no one considered himself close enough to show up.

8 years of tenure when this happened. Jesus CAR.

Nice try. He spent 9 years with the organization

Are you saying that you go to or are even aware of all of your coworker's or employee's personal events?
Well, in this situation, yes. DeAngelo was with the Panthers for 9 years. That's a long time. I would think he would have at least a few friends on the team. Arkansas might not be geographically convenient, so I wouldn't expect a crowd, but the organization should have sent a running backs coach to represent, and a couple of friends from the locker room should have gone.
Your question was whether we are

No, but I've been to a number of them, including ones for people I had never previously met--a partner's mother, another partner's brother, a receptionist's father, just to name the most recent.

The funeral stuff I can understand. This is pretty crappy though.

Right. I already recognized that. Were all of his teammates also on the team for 9 years?

If that is true he is either a dick or didn't tell anyone about the funeral.

The point is it's a personal matter. If he has friends with the team then I would expect that they would go, but not going is on a personal level on them. It's probably just a nice and thoughful sentiment that you would go to a funeral for the family of a coworker who you don't even know. I wouldn't have expected you.
The owners should have done more for such a longstanding player. At a normal job, they should have sent flowers at least. The Richardsons probably could have done more, seeing as they're billionaires and all.

Richardson will have a tear filled press conference about how he cares about breast cancer before the week is out.

I'd say it's pretty shitty at the least.. The man has been open regarding his moms battle and the league has made this fight (breast cancer) a pointed public relation point of emphasis.. Organizations constantly preach the family and brotherhood of the players and the atmosphere they preach leads itself to believe that they would show much more emotion and compassion to a fellow "brother". Shows more about ownership and upper management that the facade is just that and the players aren't buying in.

Teammates and coworkers are totally different things

This is really sad on the Panthers Organization. You don't send anyone and the only person who shows up is the person who allegedly beat his girlfriend. Pretty fricking sad regardless if the funeral was in Arkansas or Alaska.
For example, I work for a business with over 100 employees. Anytime a family member of a coworker dies, we send flowers on behalf of the business, and usually have representatives from the business at the funeral.
My personal experience: I'm over 7 people, and last year one of my employee's mom died. I had only been over this employee for 6 months, but I managed to go to the wake and the funeral along with 2 of my coworkers and my immediate supervisor. This is common practice.

Yes, yes and yes
We are talking about the Panthers though. Only other organization I'd expect this type of behaviour from is the Browns....the same organization that praised Manziel for going into rehab but gave Gordon shite for drinking two beers

They are a team. Insulting no one could spare an hour of their day to stop by. Organization should have sent flowers. Coach should be there. Teammates. Just a bunch of shitty people.

Neither would I, but I work at a fortune 500 company and if somebody's close relative dies, there is an email sent out to acknowledging it. People can send their condolences if they so choose.
