I am using a TV as an additional monitor and I cannot get the color right. I have updated my drivers, etc., but my picture is still very dark. I read where a TV and a Monitor have different settings, but I was unable to find the proper settings to make my TV picture better. It is very dark and I have tweaked the settings to where for it to be bright enough, it is almost unwatchable.

Did you go into the video card settings, or the generic display settings..?

I found this on another forum:

LINK

"Recently I found someones post that suggested I find the option within the TV menus to essentially change the label or name of the input on that HDMI selection. Doing this on the Sony TV didn't change a thing. I renamed it 'PC' and saw no difference. However! Once I found the option on the Samsung 27" with Samsung Laptop and selected "HDMI-PC" it was perfect! The option could only be found by pressing the input button on the remote and then pressing the 'tools' button as it is a specific 'tools' menu for the input selection screen."

to get it to work you probably have to use the utilities they send with the video card.

Find out your video card, and then get the utilities if they aren't already installed. It will allow a lot more flexibility in making adjustments.

RGB pixel values range from 0-255. Video devices like TVs, BD players, etc, use Video Levels, which define black as 16 and white as 235. PCs and monitors use PC Levels, which define black as 0 and white as 255. It sounds like you're sending PC Levels to a TV expecting Video Levels, which will make the picture look too dark due to "black crush", treating all values <= 16 as black when they should be shades of gray, and everything above is darker than it should be.

You need to look for a setting on your TV such as "HDMI/DVI Dynamic Range" and set it to whatever it calls PC Levels. If there is no such option, there should be a video card option to compress all output to Video Levels. That'll more or less work, but it may introduce banding in video, and obviously, you're compromising desktop output (browsers, office apps, games, etc) by compressing the color space. It's the last resort option.

I am running a laptop with a Vizio 24 inch TV- E24i-A1.

It Is connected by HDMI to a laptop with Intel HD Graphics 3000, I have tried updating my driver, but it says I have the best driver for my system.

It is connected to the HDMI input on the TV or it wouldn't work. I've tried all the troubleshooters, calibration, etc. It just looks terrible.

I tried some of the things on that exact forum. My tv doesn't have a highly featured menu, so I haven't been able to get it to work.
