Because hockey is fricking awesome and people who don't like it are rednecks.
Then the overwhelming majority of the country is redneck, including major cities and young people.

Canada is pretty redneck. Hockey is pretty damn country strong.

Back in the day, I was a badminton thug. I'd buzz a shuttlecock upside a gangsta's head in a heartbeat.
Dark times man, dark times.
Dark times man, dark times.

The purpose of boxing is to fight. What's the purpose of NHL?

Lol the popularity of hockey is strongest in the densest cities/ regions. And yes, the majority of the country are redneck and/or minority. Hockey is the most fun you will have at a live sporting event.

One of my friends, Billy Tibbetts, played in the NHL and he is the definition of thug! Some of the most scared times I have had in my life have been cruising around Boston and Scottsdale while he was driving.

Dude in like 2006 or 2007 I was out visiting him and some other friends in Boston and we were leaving the bar HAMMERED and he was driving like a maniac and running reds while doing bumps. I am the backseat with another buddy saying we need to get the frick out of there because they had a ton of drugs. Somehow we made it home, how I have no idea, but like a month or two later he got busted for a high speed chase. He was just out here a little over a month ago and we partied for like a week and I am ready to go another year or two without seeing him. My sisters friend didn't know him and was kinda into him and I told her she needed to forget about that with the quickness, dude is legit thug.

So I've still yet to see an intelligent answer to the OP's orginal question.
"Because it's always been that way" doesn't cut it.
