You have really try to be dense to not realize there are racial overtones to the word "thug." Just look on the OT.

I suppose if you want there to be. The OT isn't exactly in touch with the rest of the country.

thug was this guy until about 20 years ago.

You can blame a popular music genre for the change.

It's not just the OT. OT was just a glaring example.

Are you denying there are racial overtones to the word?

If you want there to be. Are you denying white folks can be called thugs? Thugs existed long before integration.

The acceptable term for a hockey "thug" is goon. It's always been that way but you're welcome to call them what you want.

What does that even mean I can if I was there to be? Nice cop out.

Sure, there are white thugs. As far as I know, Webster's hasn't completely changed the definition of the term. It just requires paying a little attention to the context of the term.

Of course he is, but I will point out one more thing:

Three people cannot fight. A fight is mano a mano, and if someone is the "third man in", they are ejected from the game and then suspended. Any player leaving the bench is automatically suspended. There are no bench clearing brawls in hockey.

Though hockey clearly had the biggest problem in its sport with thuggery. Look up the 1970s. The Flyers won two titles by essentially beating the shite out of everyone. So the league responded and radically changed the rules to stop that.

Well, it's not a cop out. It's a very subjective thing and people generally reach the conclusion they want to reach.

I'm 100% sure there are racial undertones to the word, to some people.

The NHL has been trying to control fighting for awhile now. If you notice and read the rule book fighting is against the rules and people who fight are penalized in the game.

In Europe fighting is not part of hockey culture and at the youth, high school, and college levels fighting is not part of the culture and is met with severe penalties

People who really like and know hockey know that fighting has no real place in the game but accept that for a lot of people it's the only reason they watch hockey.

If you talk to people who have played organized hockey they will tell you it really has no place in the game. If you go to a recreational hockey league for adults and start a fight you are done and kicked out and may face criminal charges of assault and battery.

its part of the game in the NHL.

Boxers also don't get in trouble for fighting.

NFL is the most physical game of them all, though.
