I watch the show and I'm absolutely disgusted with what our government has become... Makes me want to burn the motherfricker to the ground and start over. You hear me you spying bastards! The wholesale negligence by Obama of this issue is even more disturbing.

Yup. It's pretty incredible what our country has allowed because of fear of terrorism. The government has used terrorism as an excuse to take away our privacy.

It's only going to get worse. If information is power then the head of the NSA is the most powerful person on the planet as it stands.

Yup, and like I said earlier in this thread, I really wish the American people would fight over this. This issue completely transcends parties.

Well all of this started before 9/11. 9/11 just gave them the ability to open Pandora box. I'm actually more disgusted with companies who just gave our information away without putting up a fight (Apple, Gmail, Verizon).

Yup. I really wish there was a way to blow up the party system. It gets us nowhere, and we are stuck with a country full of people choosing one side no matter what. A lot of times, the two parties just show us that there can be two wrong ways to approach any issue.

I think this transcends American politics. Sure we are the leader of this type of invasion of privacy. But I think it'll take something happening in another country for the spark to wake up the majority of the citizens in this country.

Some people don't even care. My wife had no interest in watching this with me so I watched it without her. Afterwards, I basically explained the whole movie and her response was "So. I don't do anything wrong." Bless her heart.

A man who doesn't move won't notice the shackles around his ankles. If we need to be able to hide something from the government, we can't. That's a problem.
Have your wife watch this 20 minute Ted talk by Glenn Greenwald (the reporter in the doc). She will no longer feel that way.

Well that bored the crap out of me. No car chases, no shoot-outs, there was no black "buddy" who heroically died at the 40 minute mark. TOTAL bullshite. Next time instead of casting it with unknowns I'd suggest Nick Cage and Tom Cruise. And the off-camera chick could be Sienna Miller. And the Hong Kong scenes should have inscrutable Chinese hookers who try to jab him with a poison pen and steal his hard drive on behalf of The Chinese. And there should be no ghey or Portuguese language scenes. Box office Gold, Jerry. Gold.

One take away for me was Snowden as a narcisist. Did anyone else get this impression? He was often filmed worrying about his appearance. Also, he and GG discuss giving a big F-You to the government stating "we're not afraid of you" while sitting in a hotel room in Hong Kong.
I felt they both came off as self-indulgent, even if performing a useful public service.
They're huge narcissists. I don't necessarily disagree with anything Snowden and GG think about surveillance, but I also can't ignore that GG especially has a radically different worldview than I do. Poitras too.

It's recorded. Haven't seen it yet. Hopefully, first thing tomorrow.

I think the subject matter is better than the documentary. (Since this is M/TV board.)

I would agree with that. They were pretty limited with their footage, but that was expected considering their circumstances.

I think it did exactly what it was suppose to, basically document the exchange between GG and Snowden and the outcome of what happened once the NSA stories started to hit the air. She flipped the camera on almost immediately when they got into his hotel room and probably has hours of footage that will eventually end up in a museum somewhere my guess.

I watched this last night. It was ok.
I got way more out of the United States of Secrets.

When I press "submit" I know the NSA is collecting it. To use at their will.
Makes me want Ron Swanson it and get off the grid. No new data for my government to collect. That's right USA, beacon for democracy and liberty, you have a solid tax-paying, flag-waving, former grunt that despises your overreach. That said, I love my country, go America, don't look at me.
