How long are the average concerts by the performers? Do the bigger stars play longer?

Mid card usually gets an hour to an hour and a half.

Headliners get hour and 1/2 to 2 hours. Sometimes 3 hours. Last year Phish set the all time longest Jazz Fest performance by going for 3 and 1/2 hours.

That's better than I thought. But for that period of time people either stand or sit on the ground, right? Can we bring folding chairs to sit on, do you know? I'm such a newbie with that!

My fiancé and I really really want to go see some of the performers.

You can find some hidden gems at the out of the way venues. The traditional jazz tent is a favorite of mine.

Last year Phish sheeeeit the bed when the took an unprecedented, reprehensible set break at Jazz Fest. No one has ever taken a set break at Jazz Fest. Made me want the throw up the acid and reach for the landing gear.

Elton John will probably play for a long time.

Clapton played for about 45 minutes last year.

Yeah, you can bring chairs. Thousands of people do. The part immediately in front of the stage is reserved for standing though. Have fun. Jazz Fest is one of, if not THE, best things about New Orleans. Beyond the day at the Fairgrounds as well, check out jazzfestgrids.com for late night shows across the city from beautiful theaters like the Saenger, Joy, and Civic- to legendary locals spots Tipitina's and Maple Leaf- to the door to door venues on Frenchman St.

Can't wait.
