So I'm flying to Hawaii this summer and since it's going to be way cheaper I'm going to be spending around 12-14 hours in the LAX.

Anyone know what I can do instead of just staying in the airport

I did one of those bus tours of the stars homes that included lunch. Had fun.

Just remember LA traffic sucks and you'll have to get another tsa rubdown before your flight.

go to the beach and get drunk, its right around the corner. I would have done the same thing but my layover was only a few hours. Fwiw, I'm sure you can get a better deal, I'd wait

Go to Santa Monica, I wouldn't do Hollywood since it's a huge tourist trap. Stay by the beach

If you can get to Downtown LA during office hours, don't miss the La Brea Tar Pits.

I'd rent a car. LA is huge. As has been said, remember that you have a 2-ish hour date with TSA to get back on your LAX-HNL leg.

Might do that but might be better to get a cab or bus since I've never driven around LA before

They have GPS signals there. It ain't rocket science to get around LA.

LA is not a walkabout city.

I would stay in the Westside area and not go to Hollywood or DTLA, unless you have a strong interest to see Hollywood. Tons of great places in Venice or Santa Monica and you can hang out on the beach.

I would definitely not rent a car. Uber is much less stressful and more convenient, but you will have your luggage I guess so not sure about that aspect. Parking really sucks in most of the areas you would head to.

Call Anthony Bourdain. He'll know what to do.

The tar pits? That's a joke, right? I wouldn't tell anyone to go to the tar pits unless they were on supervised visitation with their kids from previous divorce

That's a sticky proposition.

You tar me with the same brush as a divorcée?
