Strangest guitar I've ever seen!
Posted by adono on 2/21/15 at 1:53 am00
A buddy of mine owns C & M Music and has a hell of a collection of super nice guitars (a 52' LP and 56' Strat are among them) and he owns one of these things:
It's a Teuffel "Birdfish" made in Germany and cost near $14,000.00! He says it's a great playing guitar, but that's too much money and way too weird for my taste.
Here's a video of the thing in action:

Two things:
- I like he fact that it's got a leg-rest/kickstand designed into it.
- Every once in a while - I kinda crave a hot dog. This just reminded me I haven't had one in a while.

It's kinda cool but I don't see how that's worth $14K.

That's him; his name is Melvin. That's funny you mentioned the wife. I had that discussion with him yesterday. He was showing me his current collection (he has 83 of the finest guitars you have ever seen) and I asked how much he had tied up in the guitars; his reply was: "More than my wife needs to know about!".
I bought a 1975 Gibson EDS-1275 (Doublemeck) that was on consignment at Werlein's Music from him; he was a salesman there. I was playing the guitar and the daughter of the store owner jumped his arse about me playing it and he was rattled. I put the guitar on the counter and told him to get the case because I was buying it. I also told him to out get the hell out of there. He did and he has done extremely well for himself.

I don't care for it. I'm a purist when it comes to guitars. I like simple and traditional designs.
I agree. Take that $14K put a few more bucks with that and shop around for a 52' LP...you'll own a slice of history and a guitar that will keep appreciating through the roof.

This is retarded. I was in a pawn shop once and they had a Gretsch back behind the counter. I told them I was interested and that I'd like to play it. They said "nope, nobody plays that one until it's bought and paid for." I said "you're telling me you expect to sell it without letting anyone play it?" They replied with "it just takes the right buyer." I said "the right stupid buyer." I laughed openly in their fricking faces and walked out. That's retarded. It was a run of the mill Gretsch hollow body, they were acting like it was SRV's #1 or something.

It looks... neat. I don't really like the tone, though.

It looks like it would break really easily.
I did some research on it last night and came across a site that had a poster who said he went to a NAMM show a years ago and the manufacturer had 4 of the things there and everyone one of them was broken...before the show started.
It's novelty item for someone who wants to piss away money and tell folks there's only 200 in existence...don't think that makes it play any better.
Quite honestly, I've heard better tone coming out of a $300 MIC Fender!

I love Melvin. All of my 5 guitars are through him and C&M. He's got me great deals on new and used guitars over the years since I took lessons there and hung out there a lot. C&M is where I go for my stuff.
He had some sweet PRS Dragons he'd bring to shop every once and a while.
