There were a couple of other characters that were turned into women on that show as well.
I forget who it is but at least one poster here has a huge bug up his arse about it.

I'm not interested in a new MacGyver helmed by anyone.
It was a role perfectly designed by one individual.
It will be like the several Knight Rider remakes/reboots. Except it sounds like they are counting on the "But with a girl" to lure the viewing public.
Starbuck being a chick was not a selling point in the series. Hell, if we're being honest, she was not really even that important. She was more of a Ross Gellar in this ensemble. Adama drove the series.
