Nashville trip help

Looking to go for the first time in december. Where is the beet area to stay? Opryland area or music row area?
Was looking at staying at Gaylords but not sure if its worth it to pay $350 a night to just sleep when we will be out all day long doing things. Where is the closest place to attractions? We have never been so we will for sure want to go to the grand ole opry, catch some performances, country music hall of fame, and do some of the toursy stuff since its first trip. Just give some suggestions on where to stay and what to do.

Opryland is far. Stay on music row or any of the hotels on West End---most of these will have "at Vanderbilt" tagged on the end.

good info... any other suggestions? Like i said, never been so no clue where to stay or what to do "other than the opry and such"

Check out the breweries.
I prefer to go out on the Vanderbilt side for drinking. The main drag is very touristy.

Stay on or as close to Broadway near music row as you can. I love Nashville, but I've never been nor have a desire to go to Opryland. There are a couple of kick arse diners there. One is near Vandy. I'll try and look it up, but hopefully someone from that area can tell you.

On music Row you can walk to the midtown bars or Demombrium (college bars). There or west end you can Über downtown for a couple of bucks. Upscale dining and bars are also a quick cab away from the Gulch.
Hit up The Red Door midtown, Bar Louie in the Gulch, Tootsies on Broadway is THE Nashville bar landmark. All of the broadway honkey tonks are fun, but a little touristy. Merchants is a great place to eat and drink downtown as well.

Also, if you're drinking DO NOT DRIVE. They don't mess around there. Depending on what you blow, you'll get mandatory jail time. A coworker of mine got one and his attorney told him that a lot of attorneys won't take DWI cases any more because there is very little they can do to fix them with the laws being what they are.

im okay with this stuff. The family is going, parents and wife and all.. so wont be alot of "partying"

Pancake Pantry is right there on 21st. Great place for breakfast. The line will look long but they give you free coffee for the wait.

I would recommend getting a hotel downtown. The Hyatt, Renaissance, Sheraton and Omni are all in walking distance of all the honky tonks, Bridgestone arena( for a preds game. Best team in hockey) and the country music hall of fame. You can always make a short 10 minute drive to Opryland or a 3 minute cab ride to midtown or the gulch. STAY DOWNTOWN!
If you wanna stay in a cool historic building, I recommend Union Station. It's the old train station, converted to a hotel. Super nice, also in downtown.
Checkout the Yazoo Brewery, Corsair Distillery, The American Pickers Store in the old Marathon auto factory, Battle of Franklin, The Hermitage, Travelers Rest Plantation. You have to see a show at the Ryman Auditorium. Or at least do the tour.
There are more restaurants than I can shake a stick at. Checkout the gulch area,West end and Downtown. Definitely get to a couple different BBQ joints and The Loveless Cafe west of town has the best biscuits on the planet.

They have some honky tonk bars on Music Row. Opry Mills outlet have pretty much all the brands I wear at low price, it's my favorite one-stop shopping mall actually.
I grew up and lived in Nashville for 20+ years. Personally I'm not a big fan of Nashville and I'm still struggling to figure out what's so great/special about it.

awesome! and yes im hoping to catch a preds game... hope they have a home game. Also will catch a titans game if a home, im a colts fan but still want to go for experience of outdoor nfl game "only been to saints games". Maybe they will be playing indy that week!

If you do the Country Music Hall Of Fame, add on the Studio B tour avail there. Worth the time and the money.
Another overlooked 'museum' is the Musicians Hall of Fame. As the CMHOF is dedicated to the stars, the Musicians Hall is dedicated to the session musicians - country, rock and roll, and blues. As they say, "See the shiny car of country music at the CMHOF.. Come see the engine and wheels at MHOF."
Its on the first floor of the Municipal Auditorium, the entrance is on Musicians Way.
