The NBA has the worst, easily:
Heat
Magic
Thunder
Wizards
Raptors
NFL:
Jaguars and Panthers were brought about in the 90s and super unoriginal
Texans
MLB:
Not too many awful ones but Nationals should have became the Senators

Pelicans is pretty dumb, sounds like a AA baseball team name.

While I will admit that Pelicans is not the best name for a sports team but it fits the city/region where the team plays and is an actual real thing.
NBA names that are worse:
Utah Jazz
LA Lakers
OKC Thunder
Orlando Magic
Miami Heat
Memphis Grizzlies (should have renamed to Bears when they moved from Vancouver)
and the worst Toronto Raptors

Lakers and Jazz are classics, it doesn't bother where they are located. Toronto Raptors flows off the tongue a lot better than New Orleans Pelicans IMO

Notice that almost every team you named haven't had their name for that long. Most of those are either fairly recent expansion teams or teams that relocated and changed their name.
You just don't like change apparently.
There are a bunch of generic names tied to old franchises, but you skip over those because you are used to them because they were always around.

Orlando went with something to correlate with Disney.
In fact, while some of the names may be a tad cheesy, the NBA has done the best job of naming teams for something indigenous to their city. Minneapolis Lakers and New Orleans Jazz just got messed up by relocating.
