His deal is worth 477k. Amar'e chose Dallas over the Clippers and Suns who had also shown interest. Absolute steal for Mavericks in a position they desperately needed a bit more depth in. If you're gonna get a backup, might as well sign the six-time all-star for less than 500 grand right? Cuban

The Mavs could only offer Stoudemire the prorated veteran's minimum. His deal with Dallas is worth $477,150, according to sources.

The Mavs plan to use Stoudemire, a six-time All-Star who is averaging 12.0 points and 6.8 rebounds in 24 minutes per game this season, as a sixth man. The majority of his minutes are likely to come as Chandler's backup at center, and Stoudemire will also get some spot duty at power forward behind Nowitzki.

Stoudemire doesn't have a ring does he? Must be realizing it's time to start taking paycuts if he bought out of making 24 mil a year to take less than half a mil.

Well he got a buyout for leaving NY so he will be just fine.

What a great position for him. Gets bought out and gets to sign with a good team and make a little pocket change.

No doubt, but when your yearly salary goes from 24 mil to less than 1, that's desperate.

That's not how buyouts work. He's making both.

24 mil a year for five years of which he "earned" 4 full year's worth (not sure how well the Knicks think he earned it). Not losing much from a buyout to go to a winning team. Pretty much a no-brainer at this point in his career.

Yeah, it's pretty desperate of him to join the Mavs.

So after this year he's an unrestricted free agent with no contract?

He will be back in PHX next year resurrecting his career with the best medical/training staff.

No and he still won't have one.

Would have loved for him to return to the Suns, but I really do hope he succeeds in Dallas. For under half a mil is crazy too.

Yes. He was bought out for whatever they agreed upon, but most of the time the players have the leverage and are happy to be "hurt" and get paid. So the teams just pay them all to go away. The players will sign for the minimum as they're already paid for the year....and i'm not sure but it may be a situation where whatever the new team pays them the new team doesnt have to pay. So they take the minimum and basically audition for a new contract. But Amare got his money. He's not desperate for a ring, he was going to take the minimum no matter what....so why not do it on a contender where you can possibly show you should make more next year.
