Also, do we really have top 3 talent? Look at Ole Miss. Moody, White, and Summers are all better than any guard we have.
I love how people look at a&m like a bad loss. It hurts and probably puts the nail in the coffin for us, but they're a tourney team.

keep in mind: 3 seasons jones has been at LSU

Don't know if you're agreeing with me or against me...but yes, it's not because of youth. It's because they need more time to develop their game and mindset. But everyone around here sure thinks they're ready

I would love to agree with you, but those inexperienced players can't wait to jump to the NBA and leave LSU in the dust. They won't be here when they have "experience".
Everyone said that about Johnny O'Bryant, but we managed to keep him on campus for three seasons. I think we all may be surprised.

Keep in mind he took over a Trent team that had 3 post players and not enough time to recruit another...JOB, Andrew Del Piero, Jalen Courtney. You go be successful

I just wish LSU could make the tournament. it's been since 2009 since LSU has made the tournament.

You have absolutely gone off the deep end. This is a team with enough talent to make the NCAA tournament. I know you want to keep the faith but how many years is it going to be "wait until next year". This year is wildly disappointing and you diminishing the talent on this team isn't going to make anyone think any differently. I've sat in the PMAC for probably 90% of games for the last decade and only the 06-07 team was a bigger flop than this one

3 NBA players on this team IMO

So...why does he recruit project players for his bench for this year, when we needed guys to contribute right away when Coleman, Carmouche and ADP left?

We get way too caught up with stuff like this. Go back and watch the 2006 Final Four team. That's what NBA players look like. Watch other games around the country. We don't have those guys right now. Tim has an awful shot and not very good offensive game for the most part. He's a scrappy player, but nothing the NBA scouts really want. Then Martin and Mickey have shown in several SEC games why they may eventually be NBA players, but not anytime soon.

Oh I processed it.... When the results aren't there, simply downplay the talent. You're not doing JJ any favors- but you don't realize it.

okay, anyone expecting this team to be 22-4 and ranked 4th is crazy. We know we're inexperienced.
But look at some of the stuff our guys have the propensity to do-- time after time not blocking out (you learn that in 5th grade) and this bizarre habit of dribbling the ball out of bounds. That has nothing to do with youth.

Johnny has his dream job right now. Outside of at least a Sweet 16 bid next season, I don't think he keeps it past 5 years.

This isn't a video game, it's real life. It's not that easy to just nab recruits. Elbert was a top 60 player who many teams wanted him. Elbert was top 60, so you would think a top 60 player would be ready to play. Well, obviously he wasn't. So who else will be ready? Not many Freshman come in very ready to play. We tried our asses off for Victor but he wanted to go to Zona, now we have to wait for him to sit out until he's ready again. There are only a handful of players that come into college ready to play.
Jordan Mickey was #41 coming out
Elbert was #56...look at the difference in production. It's hard to just get somebody who is gonna be very good night in and night out.

the fact that we got better center play from Del Piero than we do from Odo, Malone, and Robinson is scary. So is the fact that a team with Del Piero as a starter is going to end up having a similar record to one with Martin and Mickey starting in the post.
Posted on 2/18/15 at 11:50 am to I-59 Tiger
A&M is a terrible matchup for us. Mickey can't handle Roberson in the post and House is just a stud who will always get his. Mickey is light in the arse and Martin doesn't have the skills to play in the post. At least not yet. We have Trent to blame for not getting Roberson to BR. He's kicked our arse just about every time we've seen him and he loves to rub it in.

I agree with you there. But I tend to look at the players in these situations. I think Martin SHOULD be the best player on the floor every night outside of UK. But he rarely, if ever, plays like that. I simply cannot put that on CJJ. I think the fact that a tandem of JOB and ADP is as successful as Martin and Mickey, then maybe we should relax on their hype train

Those teams also have significantly better coaches as far as X's and O's go. People aren't expecting a top 10 team here, but to anyone with a brain and any knowledge of basketball, they see a very poorly coached, young, but talented team.
Jones is a very very good recruiter (not Daddy Dale good though), but just like his mentor, can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. Unless you are an elite recruiter getting something like multiple top 40 players every year, then you better be a good coach. Johnny is simply not that.
In the end, LSU hired a weaker version of Dale Brown.

I think after 2 recruiting classes it's a little early to call the guy a complete bust

How do we know this? Dale didn't have nearly the classes Jones has had in his first 3 years... He didn't have a winning SEC record till his 6th season....
Jones has already grabbed the #1 recruit and a top 15 recruit for next year. He has had High School All-Americans and found some diamonds in the rough in Patterson and (to an extent) Quarterman.
