I live in Houston and get Shipley's all the time. I prefer Mary Lee though.

Yes. They're doing better than ever. Was actually back home this past weekend and enjoyed a flook burger on Friday for lunch and Mr Clearances Donuts Saturday morning.

Was a great weekend.

Shipley's donuts are GOAT!!! There was one in my hometown when I was growing up, and over the years have tried many others, but nothing comes close to Shipley, particularly the creme filled ones. ... I'm about to relocate to another city, and I actually considered the fact that the place has a Shipley's donuts as a "pro" when looking at the pros/cons of moving. ... Can't wait to be able to get those rounds of melt-in-my-mouth sweet deliciousness any time I want. I already know the store hours & time it takes to drive there in morning traffic.

Eta - second best donuts, EVARRRR are from The Donut Shop, Natchez, MS ...

LINK Donut Shop

They have great tamales & hamburgers, too!!! (Right, OG?)
And sorry, but, nope, not even your Vietnamese lady's donuts are equal to Shipley's.

Well, I see the husks, but where'd the actual tamales go? ... Not much need for that fork either. ... Can't believe you ate those in your vehicle.

God damn coach Webb thought I was an offensive lineman weighing in at 160. I was an acceptable guard with help around me. Piss poor tackle alone on the outside being so undersized.

You don't think I was gonna sit out there on those picnic tables on a 100 degree day, do you? I don't like to sweat like a hog when I dine on fine food! I ate em in my vehicle, cruizin' down the road, with the air condition, conditionin' me..
I did have my special hot tamale towel hooked on the seat belt and covering up my crisp, short folded and starched, white, oxford cloth shirt.. Imma gentleman...

Well, no, but I also wouldn't think you'd attempt to eat a dozen dripping-in-sauce tamales while driving down the highway. ... Sitting in your vehicle, parked, with motor running & A/C on, maybe? ... I guess there were no major catastrophes?

You know that we don't sweat, right? We barely have any sweat glands at all, which is why we don't like hot weather & why we roll around in the mud to cool off. I have no idea where that inaccurate "saying" originated.

Yes, one can tell you were raised right with good manners. Only the most refined gentlemen own a designated "hot tamale towel," are skilled enough to hook it to a seatbelt, and are accomplished in eating tamales oozing with grease & sauce while wearing a white shirt & driving.

Ok, I give up!

But, was very easy, all I did was to suck all the juice out of each tamale, before I laid it down on the newspaper to unhusk it, reach back down to grab semi juiceless tamale, sorta chew, swallow,,, drive with left hand, sometimes left thigh. Cruise control is a necessity from Natchez to Woodville..

How slippery was your steering wheel afterward? ... And for some weird reason, all the tamale talk has made me crave chicken & dumplings???

Left hand/steering wheel remains clean,,, always!!
However, right hand had to be cleaned off by mouth, beard, and towel before I could grip my can of fresca.
Hot tamales-chicken n' dumplins',, sure, they're pretty much the same,, although I wouldn't even need a towel to eat dumplins' @ 70 mph.
