quote:-40 what? miles per hour? it's negligible what your oil is doing at that speed since you're getting such good gas mileage. that's what my buddy told me anyway. he's a chemical rocket scientist.
Motor oil at -40
I've got a trailblazer that has only ever had Mobil 1 in it. I did a compression test on the motor at 225k miles. There was effectively no compression loss on the motor at all.
This indicates no substantial wear in the cylinder bores or he piston rings even after all those miles. I've worked on cars all my life and think this is nothing short of amazing.

The people on the video say the test is run on Motor Oil at -40 degrees Celsius
I believe -40 C = -40 F
quote:
Does anyone know what that temperature equates to on the Fahrehiet scale?
No. Nobody knows how to translate celsius to fahrenheit. It's not like you can just type "40 degrees C to F" in google and find the answer. What kind of world do you think we live in!?

-40 is where Celsius and Fahrenheit meet.

Thats why they have block heaters up north. You plug it up at night so it keeps your engine/oil warm and to ensure it will start.

What real world conditions is this test supposed to replicate?
Anyone in an environment that cold is supposed to have a heater to warm the engine block

I think it is to show that not all motor oils are created equal. A lot of people think that motor oil is all the same brand to brand as long as it is the same weight being compared. Like name brand corn vs. Wal-Mart brand corn. This test shows that they very much are not the same.
