I never watched it(born in 86). So leads me to ask the following question.
How does one go about seeing E.T.? No movie rental stores anymore, never on TV, literally never, which I find strange. Not on my Roku to order either. Netflix mail service? A large library?

It's readily available on Amazon
Sigh. Kids today don't know about the old fashioned ways of watching movies.

LOVED this movie as a child. I must have made my parents take me to see it in the theaters several times.
Remember it took FOREVER before it came out on VHS? Back in the day when movies didn't come out on video months after being in the theaters, you actually had to wait if you missed it in the theaters.
ETA: Just looked it up...released in theaters in 1982....released on VHS in 1988!! 6 years!!

I havent seen it in years. I remember I always got upset at the end when they had the house in the big containment bag.
Mild Thread Hijack: There was a thread here a while back about the search for the infamous video game. Apparently when the game tanked, Atari just went out in the desert and buried the remaining stock. Pretty cool, theres a video documentary about it.

The fact that Spielberg went Full Lucastard and digitally replaced guns in the Feds' hands with walkie-talkies in the "Special Edition" is an affront to cinema.
Penis Breath is still one of the greatest of all insults. . .

At least he admitted his errors and undid the changes in the blu-ray release.

For some reason, I was never a fan. I like sic-fi too. E.T. just seemed stupid though.

I had that game. Apparently I was a huge ET junkie as a very young kid. I hauled a stuffed ET around with me, and my grandmother made me an ET costume for Halloween one year. I wish I knew where that thing was.

I discover the goodness that is Reese's Pieces due to this movie.

The version that was on TV last night (on NickMom, whatever the frick that is) had the guns. I was very happy to see that.

Hate speech now.
Also, I noticed that Erika Eleniak was the cute girl that Elliot kissed during the frog escape scene (paralleling the scene from The Quiet Man that ET was watching while drunk). Who knew she'd be giving us the goods only 6 years later...

They did dig up the landfill! Urban myths so rarely turn out to be true, it's nice when one pans out.

The movie is amazing and still one of the best kid POV movies ever made. Peter Coyote as "keys" is a stroke of genius, and really taps into how kids view the world.
Spielberg did take out the guns in one release, but saw the error of his ways, as previously mentioned. We'll give him a brief moment of listening to his buddy George before coming to his senses. No harm, no foul.
Long live physical media. Buy the damn blu ray.

Me too!
I was ET one year as well...as in the oh so awesome Halloween costumes of the 80s with the plastic suit with ET on it(so you know who the person is) and the plastic mask.
And I carried this with me everywhere(well it looked kinda like this)
