Please help me choose a new monitor/TV

I'm moving into my new house next month and I'd like to get a new monitor/TV for my computer which will be located in the game room which is open to the living room. I'm currently using a 39" Samsung LED LCD 1080p TV. I've read that faster refresh times are best for gaming and HDMI is not necessarily the best for this type of use. I wouldn't mind going smaller. I'd say 27" is probably the smallest I'd like to go. Does anyone have suggestions on a TV/monitor for my rig? I'd like to keep cost below $750 if possible. Thanks.

How far away from the screen are you?
Are you on pc or console?
If on console then you want to pay more attention to input lag than refresh rate.
As long as you aren't too far then a monitor will be a better solution for gaming than a TV.

Are you on console or PC? Do you play competitively?
If you're on console and don't play competitively, buy a TV.

I am maybe 3 feet from monitor. I don't play competitively. I am on PC. This rig will be mounted in the corner of the game room which has a pool table in it. Id like the monitor to be big enough so that we can glance at it while shooting pool. I think 27"-39" meets this criteria. With my 39" I have now when I play games the TV takes up almost my entire peripheral vision. I think 39" is a little big for PC gaming.

I am failing to see the problem here.

Shooting that close, 39 is a little big. I would think a 27" monitor would be good but I don't know about while you play pool.

Take diablo RoS for example. I have difficulty keeping my health and fury globes in view with a lot of action going on the screen. I have to move my eyes periodically to the bottom right and left to monitor my stats.

Don't get me wrong 39" isn't bad and my TV now is 60HZ. With me being a "casual gamer" I think I could get away with another good 39" with 120HZ and maybe a faster response time. I've never noticed the "ghosting" effect that hardcore gamers fuss about. I guess I'd have to see a side by side comparison of gaming to get a true sense of it all.

I think you want a monitor, TV refresh rates just aren't the same.

Could you suggest one?

Unfortunately no. I haven't looked at monitors in a while. I know you can get a 27" for sure. I don't know if 32" is an option. Ilikelsutoo will eventually pop in and I would do whatever he says.

In my experience going bigger than 24" with just 1080 is a waste. I have dual 27" Asus monitors at work and I hate them. They are paper weights. I use a single 24" Dell I had before them. I'm probably wrong and they are just shitty monitors but the 24" Dell is much more crisp than the bigger Asus monitors.

23" LG IPS LED have been using almsot 3 years and i love it. almsot too big but i sit about 2.5 ft away. 2ms refresh rate. my K/D on FPS went up half a kill when i switched away from the big screen.

overpriced? paid 200 for mine brand new and its got amazing picture... granted its 23" but holy shite. i paid 800 for my 240hz 54" vizio and that damned thing looks almost 3D...

don't say anything if you don't know about the product.
OP, that monitor looks frickinh amazing, but your 770 will have a rough time powering that high of rest in games. I would suggest a 1440p monitor. I'll shoot you a link when I get back to my PC

elitist much?
" oh snarf snarf this monitor gives blowjobs snarf its totally worth the $400 more than the one that only gives hand jobs snarf"
dude was talking about maybe getting a 120hz tv and said he plays casually. Absolutely no reason to spend 800 on a 1440 monitor.

Ok thanks.

Here's a cheap 1440p option. The picture is outstanding, but the stands are shite.
If you want the "nicer" option, the Asus pb278q is the way to go, but it's around $450

Man that price is nice. I know if I got it I would then need to upgrade my GPU so it's a money pit.
