They said that they didn't need to tell ish's story because they felt they already did that in the collectibles. I still think it would have been cool. Maybe Last of Us 2?

I never bought that excuse because Ellie and Riley's story was told in a couple cut-scenes in The Last of Us. We know they were BFFs. We know they wandered around a mall that was off-limits due to infected. We know they both got bit. We know Riley died/became infected and Ellie was immune. Story told.

The last thing we read about Ish is he escaped the sewers with a woman (Susan)...everyone else perished. Did they stay in the area? Did they leave? Where are they now? Are they still alive? Plus, I would have enjoyed seeing how Ish befriended everyone and built a mini-society in the sewers.

I also would have loved a DLC with Joel and Tommy...how did they survive? How did Joel slowly devolve into a pure survivalist and drop all pretense of morality? What caused Joel and Tommy to part ways? Or how about a DLC of Tommy after he parted ways with Joel? When did he join the Fireflies? Why did he leave? How did he wind up in Wyoming and meet his wife, Marie? How did he help set up a town/society with over 20 families in Jackson?

How about a DLC of Tess? How did she survive and become the Queen of Bad arse Bitches? How did she and Joel meet and decide to join forces?

Maybe this is the other reason I was so disappointed with Left Behind: I thought there were better stories to tell. Meh, like I said, I still play through the single-player version all the time, so I guess it is what it is.

I don't know what to make of a possible TLOU2. I'm not sure more of the same would work in this context/universe.

Honestly I would be ok if they left it as a stand alone. If they have a great story then awesome but I understand if they don't make another.

Vaguely knowing the story and getting to experience it first-hand is what I love about video games. I won't harp on that anymore, though.

However...

I think all of this would have made great DLC and it overlaps with what I suggested.

I honestly don't want another TLOU. I'd rather they leave it like it is and focus on a new IP. The ending was so powerful that a sequel could diminish it. From a money stand point, though, it seems like a no-brainer, right? They're probably going to make a sequel. If they do, I hope it has *nothing* to do with Joel and Ellie. I don't even want to run into them in some kind of crazy, random happenstance.

that's awesome...you're left wondering, there's imagination...Imagine what someone is thinking when they go through Joel's house in Austin.

that's why rummaging through the houses was such a favorite part of mine. You're looking for needed supplies, but you're kind of wondering, who lived here, how did it go down, and sometimes you get a piece of that story

we're left to understand that joel (and reluctantly tommy) did some horrible shite, killed innocent people, etc. in order to survive. It's part of what makes joel such a cool character is this 180 background that we know about, but we've never seen it

sometimes it's best not to see EVERYTHING. I learned my lesson there with the star wars prequels

I haven't played left behind, I will soon, but my favorite part of the game is playing as ellie, because in addition to scarcity of supplies you're not a brutal, big and physical guy like Joel. You're really left a lot more vulnerable, especially considering you're alone

Last of Us 2
I would prefer they leave the specific time and the characters behind. I think they should leave it, but I'd be lying to say I wouldn't be jacked to have more.

I don't even think the United States is where the story should be

England maybe, 5 years past the date of infection, see a lot more desperate survival shite.

60 years past the date of infection?

who knows.

Surely things went down differently across the pond, maybe it's worse, maybe they have some kind of functioning society and even technology there.

I don't where it stands now, but I know as of a few months ago they stated they hadn't decided if they would do a sequel in that IP or not, but were considering it. If they did, they did confirm that it very likely would have nothing to do with Joel or Ellie, they felt there was nothing positive they could add to their stories, which is a statement in and of itself considering how well they tell a story.

Maybe not as big and physical as Joel, but you never threw a bottle at a guy's face then jump on his back and knife him a bunch of times?

over half of any melee kills with ellie will result in you losing 1/2 or more of your health, that won't be easily replenished as supples are fricking short on the harder difficulties

anyway, I only do that as a last resort. I played the lakeside resort last night, and I only had 1 melee kill (in the mill, last non bloater, and I didn't have time to reload/patch up, he was right on me, and I was one hit away from death...satisfying way to end that one ) The bow is the way to go in all stealth situations, and with ellie, it's my must have in all combat situations

This is a good idea. There aren't enough games like this set in other parts of the world.

This might induce some groans here, but I'd like a TLOU2 to have the full single player campaign playable cooperatively, ala Gears of War.

I wouldn't play it in this way my first time through (and maybe it should be something that only unlocks after you've beaten the game?), but I could see it being fun to play through it on a harder difficulty with a friend. In TLOU you nearly always have someone with you - Tess, Sam, and Ellie, obviously. Even if this type of pairing won't be the case in a hypothetical sequel, I wouldn't care if I had to play as a random Firefly guy to justify why there are 2 people.

I know that introduces all sorts of design problems - AI, enemy placement / balance, level geometry, puzzles, etc. but it would be fun if they could pull it off. Maybe you could even get separated at times with your own simultaneous objectives? While Joel is trying work his way out of the basement of the hotel, player 2 (Ellie) is trying to unlock a door where he will inevitably end up. If she takes too long to reach the door, Joel has to deal with a bloater...or something.

That would be fun but would really hurt the story telling.

I don't remember it doing that. I only played it once on normal. But I knifed a ton of folks with her during that part.

I've played through it countless times and I go knife-wielding bitch mode with Ellie each time. With infected, I brick/bottle then knife them...with humans, I stealth-knife them mofos.

Only time you lose health is if you take someone head-on frontal assault style without first stunning them.

For sure, but it didn't stop me from playing Gears of War cooperatively after I beat the game by myself back in the day. I feel like TLOU's gameplay is strong enough that stealthily taking down AI enemies could be a ton of fun. You could even set up traps where one player is a diversion to lead enemies into areas full of nail bombs or an area where the other player can snipe them.

Even the encounter where Ellie is covering Joel from the fire escape with the rifle could be great.

"2 more enemies just jumped over the wall."
"Can you snipe them?"
"Sure. Got one. Crap, the other went in the store before I could get him. He's coming your way. If you run back out I might have a shot on him too."

And so on and so forth...

there's a sizeable jump form normal to hard

almost every melee interaction ended up with me getting fricking hurt badly...the brick and bottle certainly help, but melee interactions with ellie the way I've been playing it this time means I'm in pretty dire circumstances

someone got the drop on me, They ran up to me and I couldn't reload in time, wasn't quick enough with another action, etc.

when david is beating up an infected, you can go in and melee them without taking damage, but it's best in that spot to keep your head on a swivel, and not run up and melee an infected. It's also time consuming, in the time you spent beating them up and losing your health, someone else got the drop on you.

the gameplay should expand on the core set in the first game, or at least remain unchanged...totally redoing it sounds like it could be a flop

but yes, geography and time, makes for endless possibilities in the event of a sequel

There were London screenshots that came out a while ago. No one knew if they were just old concept art, new, or an artist screwing around.

also gunplay isn't really what the game should be about

supplies are scarce for one

being quiet is preferred since the infected have ultra sensitive hearing (runners and stalkers) and echolocation (clickers) so popping off a lot of rounds will probably result in you being swarmed by an insurmountable amount of infected OR hunters/cannibals/survivors...humans

it kind of is the natural choice...English speaking, overseas...I want to know how shite played out across the ocean. Were they able to mount a better preventative effort since the fungus originated in south America and news of the infection would be heard there before it was a huge problem...I wants ta knows

Oh, I'm not saying it should be about gunplay. I specifically used 2 examples from the existing TLOU campaign to illustrate how those same scenes could play out in co-op with a little reworking.

Any rifle shots fired off by a player controlled Ellie would mean less bullets for later, just like for Joel. Other than some co-op missions in "Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory", I haven't seen co-op stealth against enemy AI in a long time.

They could take the same approach that Splinter Cell: CT did, of course - design some missions specifically for co-op. That's really the more logical course of action if they wanted to implement co-op.

I've just had moments in TLOU single player where I've wanted to turn to someone and say "Did you see that!?" right after a harrowing escape or when Ellie has jumped on an enemy at just the right moment. It would be awesome if that was a real person helping me out and vice versa. And I enjoy the main campaign so much that my dream would be to have the entire thing playable with a friend and it all work flawlessly in single player as well.
