Their top 11 stayed the same. Looks like they're trying not to "overreact" to some of the losses this weekend.

I think that's stupid. Preseason polls are mostly guesses. When the play on the field answers questions, then the polls should react accordingly. I'm not saying LSU should be #1 or even top 5. This isn't about LSU. And I'm not saying preseason notions are completely off base either. It just seems like D1 is going the "baseball america" route where early on, they make very few changes to the poll regardless of the play on the field.

Yeah that's expected. I mean I don't think a team should really drop for winning a series 2/3, but Vandy didn't look all that great. But of course it's just one weekend.

Three games isn't enough to answer very many questions though.

I think it can to some degree.

I know we follow LSU the closest. And from what I saw I can say that Lange is a weekend starter. Period. I can say Zardon is the 3rd baseman. He made 2 fantastic plays over there and he might have the strongest arm when he's on the field. Stallings is the closer. Hale needs to stay at first with KRob at 2B.

Obviously, these are for weekend series. I don't mind PM tinkering during the midweek but I want there to be consistency for our young weekend guys.

We still don't know if LF will be a locked up spot. We don't know who's our long relief. Catcher is still up in the air IMO.

Overall, the team can hit, but I didn't see the gap power that I was hoping to. Only 3 extra base hits. Kansas had 8 and they only hit .170.

I guess my point is that, you're right. We can't answer many questions, but I think we have a few.

It certainly answers more questions than a dataless, preseason guess

For the record, the USA Today/Coaches poll typically doesn't put out a new one after the first weekend. They actually went without putting one out for the first two weekends last year.

Last year, I felt that we needed Sciv hitting badly. We couldn't DH him because of Mac, so our best defense was with Moore at 1B and Sciv behind the plate.

Our hitting is much more solid across the board this year. Sciv is a good catcher, but Pap IMO is already our best defensive option. That by itself puts the position up in the air. If we need Sciv's bat again like we did last year, catching will be the least of our worries.

This. UCLA could've gone 1-2 and they'd still be ranked #4.

I agree and think it shouldn't be too long to see Paps taking the majority of the starts behind the plate. Sciv is a good DH player in the lineup. He shouldn't be out of the lineup.

Not a fan of early season polls to begin with, but if they do them, they should at least try to be accurate in their rankings...
