So the cord cutting threads and sling tv threads have me contemplating cutting the cord. I'm currently on Uverse internet and maxing out around 12mbps. There are 2 rokus, 1 fire stick, 1 4k smart tv ( yet to truly see 4k thanks to such low mbps) and 1 set top Android box in the house plus phones ipads and a laptop. If I cut the cord and move to Cox internet, looking at 50mbps, is there any kind of data cap that will effect all the streaming? A Google search shows mixed results.

I also have dish so not every tv is streaming at the sane time but that would change if the cord were cut.

I think I am one tier below the top and there is a 250gb per month cap but... I don't think they do anything if you cross it.

I think they shoot you an email telling you to stop but I've never heard of them doing anything but send threat letters to keep below the limit.

Know someone who constantly goes way over the cap but so far Cox hasn't done anything.

Cox should be blazing fast compared to what you have been using.

Yeah, they don't do anything but send a bs email every once in a while. The email basically tells you to think about moving into a higher tier with a higher data cap. Meh

If they did cut me off, I would just switch to LUS gigabit fiber with no data cap at all. So whatevs

I go over every month, and in the past few months the e-mails have actually stopped. My record is over 1TB, but I know people who have done several TB in a month. I do hope they never enforce it, though.

Are you able to see your usage online? Every time I try I get an error. The only time I know what I'm using is when I get an email saying I went over my limit.

Yeah. I've never had a problem tracking usage. Just log into the cox.net account and find the data usage meter.

I've got the highest tier with Cox and I just clocked it on ookla as 61 megs down, 18 up. I don't use the Cox equipment though. I bought a Motorola Surfboard (docsis 3.o) on sale at Best Buy for $70. The Cox combo modem/router only gave me 46 down, 16 up. At $7.99/month rental, you pay for the Surfboard and a good router in a little over a year.

As stated above, I get an email every now and then, but I asked the CSR at Cox and she said to ignore it.

The highest I ever hit was about 1.5 TB in a month and although I got 4 emails that month (at different increments, like 300GB then 600GB then 1.2TB, etc.), nothing ever happened beyond that. I talk to an old online buddy of mine who works for management in Cox Business support and he said the cap emails they send to people on the residential tiers are basically just an attempt to get you to upgrade.

I wonder if customers on the "Ultimate" tier get any data overage emails. It's not like they can upgrade.

I don't know if they do or not, but there are SOHO Business packages without caps that they could try to push you to, I suppose.

Yes, we do. The customer service rep I spoke with about it told me to ignore the emails.
