Vanguard is starting this new bond fund having a duration of about one year. I was thinking of doing this hoping to at least earn something with cash. So when interest rates rise, the share price will not drop as much as longer term funds. What are your thoughts on this fund? Are there similar funds out there at the low cost places?

I have a significant amount of my bond allocation in Vanguard Short Term Corp Fund (VSCSX). It has an average maturity of 3.0 years and an average duration of 2.8 years which while low is slightly higher than the VUSFX. My current fund has an SEC yield of 1.57% and, of course, the VUSFX doesn't have one as it is still in subscription. The expense fees for admiral shares, 0.12%, are the same for both.

Thanks for the heads up. I may consider switching a little later in the year.
