From an Advocate article about increasing police presence downtown.

Sometimes, like that video of the brawl on Bourbon Street, there needs to be some good ole head smacking. Guess they don't do that anymore though.

To work the downtown beat, Dabadie said he’s selecting officers “with a community presence.”

“We’re working for that as a whole for the department,” he said. “The days of law enforcement coming in with sticks and beating people, those days are long gone.”

Not that they CAN'T bring the pain but the brpd I've been seeing downtown recently on bikes are very friendly with public. I actually noticed it this past weekend Saturday and Sunday. Cops just hanging around their bikes talking with people, petting dogs(sunday), etc. Was interesting.

Scariest day in a cops career.

No sticks, but they're bringing more batons than a marching band.

Bart: Wow, can I see your club?
Officer: It's not a club, son. It's called a baton.
Bart: What do you do with it?
Officer: We club people with it.
