Watching her performance at Woodstock tonight. Too much smoke and whiskey. Virtually no lyrics, just lots of screaming and screeching. I'm not sure why she's considered such a great artist...

Which reminds me, Pigpen and Janis were pretty close back in the day. When the dead used to all crash together, Phil said the two of them would keep the whole house up. He thinks it inspired Bobby's lyrics "did you ever waken to the sound, of street cats makin' love"

She fit the image of the scene. She blew people away simply by being a woman and acting like that. The power of her voice, the fact that she didn't give a frick, etc.

grew up in the 60s and remember "piece of my heart" coming out. liked it, but otherwise, always thought she was overrated.
