I think they only tolerate temps down to about 20 degrees.

Ha. After googling it appears it is not very easy to grow avocados in S LA. Assume no one has had any luck here.

My mom has a tree that has grown from a seed I planted. She's kept it a big pot. It's got to be 10 years old now, can't say I have ever seen it bear fruit. She brings it under cover when it's cold.

You have to have multiple trees so they can cross pollinate. Otherwise you end up with just another headache in the winter. It also takes about 6-8 years before they will begin to produce any fruit, but when they do you will get sick of Avocado.

I seriously can't imagine this ever happening. How could you get sick of avocado? That's like getting sick of breathing.

When the wife and I lived in Miami we had FL avocado trees in the backyard. You are right. I never got sick of free avocados.

Absolutely! Avocados are astronomically priced nowadays. At least here. I could eat homemade guac 4 times a week, but man. The price is ridiculous. It's not breaking the budget, but on some level it's just offensive.

$1 for an avocado is offensive?

I can stretch that out quite a bit. Granted not everyone is a Gold Coast baller like me but it's just a dollar
