I am looking to take a trip for Easter week with wife and 2 young kids (under 7) and am looking for cool/ family friendly resort within 5 hrs. Of Covington, la and all I got is Grand Hotel.

There has to be more out there - willing to go into Texas as well.

Any recommendations here?

Not much to really do at the Grand. Can try the Woodlands.

Not really. Kind of sucks for when the kids were little and I hated driving more than 4 or 5 hours.
Grand Hotel is pretty nice, but it will be expensive as hell that week.
I guess you could go to one of the places in Orange Beach or Destin that has an indoor pool and have some fun in the area.

Another option might be the Great Wolf Lodge near Dallas. Just a little further drive though.

Prepare to spends lots!

Look on Hotwire for San Antonio, if there is a 4* "Resort" by Sea World, it will be the Hyatt Hill Country resort. Great place, has golf, pools, a florider for kids, and spa for wife.

Only four hours to Destin/San Destin. If you're looking for a resort type place Baytowne Wharf or San Destin Golf and Beach Resort.

If considering SA, check out the JW Marriott. Fantastic resort.

If you are considering a drive to San Antonio, you could probably go ahead and throw the smokey mountains into the mix as well.

Callaway Gardens in Columbus, GA may be an option?

Grand Hotel is nice if you're in your 70's.

Houston has amusement parks

Phoenix West in Orange Beach has an indoor pool. I think one of the places in Sand Destin (Hilton) has one as well.

Love Callaway but it probably isn't best in early spring for kids under 7. The pool/water is probably too cold and they probably aren't getting after the fairways.

I'd look for a heated pool on the beach somewhere. Not much you can do in a 5-6 hour drive with little ones before summer time.

This is what I would choose if not trying to spend a fortune and wanting to keep it under 5 hours.
Stay at the Hilton resort on the beach at San Destin. It does have a nice indoor pool and I think one of the outdoor small pools might be heated.
It's a short drive or shuttle ride over to the village where there is some stuff for the kids to do.
You can always do some of the cheesy stuff in Destin too.

It is further than 5 hours, but the Brasstown Valley Resort is pretty cool.
