Music Board's Top 20 Albums, RESULTS
Posted on 2/9/15 at 9:19 am

Sorry for the delay everyone, but the results are in. First, a few facts about the voting itself:
130 Different albums received votes, and 43 of those appeared on at least 2 ballots. This gave us a pretty big field and a wide voting distribution, allowing me to confidently go into a Top 20. Every album but two on the top 20 appeared on at least 3 ballots.
So, without further delay, here are the Music Board’s top 20 albums of 2014. In the parenthesis are the total points, and number of ballots the album appeared on. Ties in total points were broken in favor of albums that appeared on more ballots. It was a pretty neck and neck vote, but eventually, our winner is:
1. WAR ON DRUGS Lost in a Dream (173 points, 17 ballots)
2. STRUGILL SIMPSON Metamodern Sounds in Country Music (167 points, 15 ballots)
3. RUN THE JEWELS RTJ2 (109 points, 10 ballots)
4. SPOON They Want My Soul (86 points, 12 ballots)
5. FUTURE ISLANDS Singles (65 points, 7 ballots)
6. JACK WHITE Lazaretto (62 points, 8 ballots)
7. STRAND OF OAKS Heal (50 points, 4 ballots)
8. TY SEGAL Manipulator (39 points, 5 ballots)
9. CLOUD NOTHINGS Here and Nowhere Else (38 points, 6 ballots)
10. ROYAL BLOOD Royal Blood (35 points, 3 ballots)
11. MAC DEMARCO Salad Days (34 points, 5 ballots)
12t. CHRIS ROBINSON BROTHERHOOD Phospherecent Harvest (30 points, 4 ballots)
12t. ST PAUL AND THE BROKEN BONES Half the City (30 points, 4 ballots)
14. EX HEX Rips (30 points, 3 ballots)
15. BLACK KEYS Turn Blue (28 points, 4 ballots)
16. NEW PORNOGRAPHERS Brill Bruisers (27 points, 6 ballots)
17. DRIVE BY TRUCKERS English Oceans (26 points, 4 ballots)
18. CORY BRANNAN No Hit Wonder (25 points, 2 ballots)
19. TV ON THE RADIO Seeds (24 points, 6 ballots)
20. SCHOOLBOY Q Oxymoron (23 points, 2 ballots)

Really, really good list. What a close race between 1 and 2.

Legit thanks for compiling this and I am actually kind of happy and oddly proud of the taste of this board for 2014.

Good hard work.
And a nice list, although Lost in Dream has faded a bit. I'm not sure of the staying power on that one.

I was a Sturgill partisan, and that record just keeps getting better.

Just stumbled upon this, I feel like an uncultured casual with only recognizing five of these
Loving that I'm hearing from War on Drugs. Is this y'alls first year doing this?

Good work Baloo
Very diverse list. Still think the MB is sleeping on Cold War Kids latest. And man that alt-J latest is a gem as well

I've heard of maybe 4 of these bands. frick I'm getting old. There are SO many bands out there, its daunting to find new music.

If you haven't heard those top 2 albums, get to it. Lost in the Dream is the soundtrack for a long drive. And Metamodern is just incredible.

I have about 4 or 5 more albums from 2014 I'm making myself listen to, then I'm cutting myslef off and moving on to 2015.

I've heard four of those albums from start to finish. So my favorite from that list in order are:
STRUGILL SIMPSON Metamodern Sounds in Country Music
JACK WHITE Lazaretto )
BLACK KEYS Turn Blue
MAC DEMARCO Salad Days
If anybody wants to borrow an old Kinks album, let me know.

Never listened to Ty Segall before this list and have to say that I would have put this on my list. Manipulator is good album.

Simpson up first.

I've got to say that I've listened to Seeds a lot more since my wife finally started liking it. It would be much higher on my year end list in retrospect. It's a damned good album.

Well done. Great List.
Pretty excited to see the #7 album followed by the #17 album Friday night at Hogs in a few weeks.
Strand of Oaks and DBT. Nice contrast.

The Seeds??? Guess I am showing my age, thought you were talking about the 60's band with Sky Saxon.
But, I am always interested in new music as long as it isn't rap, RnB pop or country pop, so I will see what the above listed albums do for me....
