I'm going to officially cut the cord, get rid of directv, I've got a 46 inch Samsung, I've got a roku 2, I'm going to get cableone for unlimited data land line for internet.

the question I have is I also bought an antenna for local stations. It's a small antenna that just sits by the TV. according to this site:

https://www.antennaweb.org/Address.aspx

I don't have any stations that I can hook into.

Is this correct?

I live in Natchez, MS.

TIA

I have a walmart brand RCA antennna that looks like the Mohu, not sure the model number. It did okay in the house, but I moved it to the attic and have gotten a much better signal.

Just FYI

Probably just not powerful enough. I suggest a Moho antenna and mount it outside.

If your cable was coming in through the attic, just unhook the end of it up there and plug in the antenna, will improve your signal drastically.

I bought like a 4 foot long indoor/outdoor RCA antenna and mounted it in the attic. Added a powered amplifier to it and had to add a plug in the attic. Spliced off of an existing outlet and nailed a box to the framing in the attic next to where the antenna is mounted. I was getting several locals that way but adding the powered amplifier added fox and CBS. In birmingham. It was about an hour project start to finish.

Try using the TVFOOL web site instead. Antennaweb coverage outside major cities can be spotty.

You could have just put the amplifier on the TV end, correct?

That would allow you to split the antenna signal and amplify it on either end.

I guess so but the instructions said to amplify it at the antenna. My set up is antenna > amp > 3 way splitter > 3 TVs.

I got ya. If you were getting less than a great signal on any of the 3 TV's, you may be better off to amplify each one.

That's the correct way to do it. If you put it at the other end you amplify the noise as well as the signal.

Interesting, I've had no issues with mine, it's amplified at my receiver.

What cities are the big four broadcasting their local news from? That's where the antennas usually are.

So for those of you that are cutting the cord. Are espn sports an issue at all? Is everything broadcast on espn3? I always figured sports would be the main thing that held people on to their satellite dishes.

*If* you have access to watchESPN (aka using a friend/family members login) then watching the majority of sporting events is no problem at all.

With the new slingTV thing DISH offered which includes all the ESPN channels, BEIN and something else for $25 a month, it could be a very viable option for those who don't have a watchESPN login to use.

Buy one of these and put itnn your attic.

Had one in my old house outside of BR, caught BR and NO local channels.

for now, I'm just using my iPad by setting up a hotspot with my phone. It's ridiculous I use 1 gb a month on my phone and 2 are wasted. I have wifi at my work, my parents' house, and many public places offer free wifi. I'm really making my phone bill go a long way now. frick high telecom/cable/internet bills.
