Apparently Fxx is sneaking in a pilot called Winter Dragon at 1230 tonight. Anyone got the scoop?

Only a half hour show? Strange.

Been saying for awhile that it would make a great series. They have enough material to go on forever. Would be a great pick up for HBO or a station like that

Here's something. But there's really nothing else talking about it. One of those comments about the production company throwing something out there just to retain the rights is starting to make sense.

Well that was umm interesting. I thought Billy Zane did an ok job. I'm pretty sure they slapped it together to retain the rights.

I read the series but it's been a while. Was this based off the first few pages of Book 1?

I think there's too much to it to make a really great series... but then Game Of Thrones is on the same level as far as characters and storylines and it's doing awesome. So what do I know?

Yeap, was simply the prologue. Apparently the whole thing was done in one take. Just an attempt to save the rights. Wasn't atrociously bad, just close.

I think for what the Prologue contained they did a good job with it. If they did a series they would have to be sure to keep close to the material in the books and not take many creative liberties with the story.

Legend of the Seeker series comes to mind. Sword of Truth were not horrible books and had some good material to work with but the tv series just changed way too much.

Enjoyed the series but thought there were entirely too many books and too much bringing bad guys back from the dead. Every single book was Rand Al'Thor learning new trick for 31 chapters then killing a Forsaken at the very end. Prologue of next book, Forsaken brought back to life. Got frustrating, but each book was entertaining.

shite, I missed this.

And while the book series went on entirely too long and is certainly not the greatest, it was the first fantasy series I started reading back in the 90s. So kind of a first love.

Just retaining the rights huh? Weird.

Perfect project when they finish GoT.

Go in there and cut it down to a reasonable storyline. No need to add anything that isn't in the books, but since you won't have to have a narrative describing the way each lady is dressed for multiple pages per character per scene each book should only have about 20 minutes of plot.

They can pretty much completely cut out books 7ish-11ish. And basically huge sections of all of them can be excised and re-written.

Interesting statement from Harriet, "Robert Jordan's" (Real name is Oliver Rigney) widow and editor:
quote:

"This morning brought startling news. A "pilot" for a Wheel of Time series, the "pilot" being called Winter Dragon, had appeared at 1:30 in the morning, East Coast time, on FXX TV, a channel somewhere in the 700s (founded to concentrate on comedy, according to the Washington Post).

It was made without my knowledge or cooperation. I never saw the script. No one associated with Bandersnatch Group, the successor-in-interest to James O. Rigney, was aware of this.

Bandersnatch has an existing contract with Universal Pictures that grants television rights to them until this Wednesday, February 11 – at which point these rights revert to Bandersnatch.

I see no mention of Universal in the "pilot". Nor, I repeat, was Bandersnatch, or Robert Jordan's estate, informed of this in any way.

I am dumbfounded by this occurrence, and am taking steps to prevent its reoccurrence."

I quit in the middle of book 7. Just had had enough and had no desire to read a whole bunch more mediocrity.
